Re: Windows 7 & FS/BF2142

I've run FS on the Windows 7 Professional release (I got it early in August, but just got around to trying it out) and all runs smoothly.  I have NVidia cards, and had not an issue on Yavin.  But, I've never tried running Vista on this machine so don't know if I would've had one previously.

Re: Windows 7 & FS/BF2142

Hey, guys. I'm back! *if anyone remembers me lol* I FINALLY got a PC I can play games on, so naturally I'm stoked to be back in First Strike (been without a proper PC for what seems like an eternity hmm ).

Anyway, my new PC runs Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and I have an ATI Radeon HD 5750 gfx card and it runs it fairly good. All the settings are at max, but I notice a few minor graphical glitches hear and there. Although they were the same ones I had trouble with on my old PC. The only MAJOR problem I'm having is Yavin IV. Either it doesn't load properly or it CTDs.

Oh, one other MAJOR thing. After installing First Strike, it killed 2142 vanilla. sad I have the latest vanilla patch installed (v1.5). So I don't know what happened.

You you installed the right version of FS and had it update properly?

Yes I did. Funny thing is, all of a sudden 2142 vanilla decides to start working again last night. And First Strike is still working. AND the Battle of Yavin mission is now working. lol Don't know what happened, but they work now.

However, I've encountered a new set of problems. I can't join any servers 'cause stupid Punkbuster's booting me for having "modified game content". My dad's having the same problems. Also, I can't setup a LAN game for him and I 'cause of the "modified content" error. hmm It tells me to launch the game from the FS launcher to avoid this issue, except I am. Doesn't matter who hosts, either.

So I uninstalled FS, re-installed it, updated it, tested it, and still having these problems. Argh! Please help.

Sorry to bump this topic, guys, but I'm frothing at the mouth here. lol Please help!

Re: Windows 7 & FS/BF2142

Load 2142 and join a server, that should update punkbuster for you. If it doesn't then do a google on how to update punkbuster, I'm too lazy to find a link for you myself tongue

networking, no idea, never tried it. All I can suggest is to make sure both of you are running the same version and fully updated (1.4). For online servers, I suggest using only BI or RSF as they are guaranteed to be up to date, maybe the server you tried is running an older FS version.

If none of that works, well then I'm afraid it could be time to start doing a full reinstall of 2142 up to version 1.5 then installing FS 1.4, maybe even consider downloading from a different mirror in case yours is corrupted.

Re: Windows 7 & FS/BF2142

Thanks for tip, Twigs. I'll give that a shot. I thought I had the most up to date version of PunkBuster, but maybe not. Here's hoping that will fix it. I'm anxious to get back into those frenetic Star Wars battles. Pure awesomeness. cool

UPDATE: Hey, I think it worked! I updated the PunkBuster files manually (2142 vanilla wouldn't auto-update and I kept getting kicked hmm) and now I can play both 2142 vanilla AND First Strike online without gettin' "the axe". big_smile Thanks, Twigs! cool

The only thing is I haven't been able to test either in a LAN game with my dad. The PC he was using isn't available right now. So I gotta wait... bummer. sad
