They have other non-canon game related articles like the freakin' Lego Star Wars games. I think there was some friction with the the Wookieepedia guys about something too, but might be worth another shot putting a post up there and making it clear that it is game related and non-canon maybe?

Tbh on alot of bf2142 servers the sqauds aren't overly tactical like TGs were or atleast its hard to find a communicative one. Usually they are just spawn points and the occassional res. I usually play project reality for that sort of serious gaming but yesterday really was fun. I wish all games would be like that.

Played as commander, squad leader and squaddie and in each instance people found that elusive V key and spoke, relaying tactical information instead of anecdotes bout how people sucked.

Been playing too much BC2, only lone squads and snipers.

Whats refreshing about 2142 is how powerful the weapons are, especially antitank.

Well, yeah as I said, some of the issues were most likely due to my sensitivity settings, but there were still some negative issues other than that which just made me go, "Wow, just wow." Used to be my game of choice back in the day, so I still have a lot of love for it.

Don't want to muck up my settings for FS by tweaking them for BF2142, but might just make a copy and do that.

Was good playing with them, was on for an hour or two, but couldn't believe how much I hated playing BF2142 again, it has been a few years since I played it last, but good grief, the inaccuracy of the weapons, the pure randomness of it sometimes (we seem to have really improved hit detection somehow on FS). I'd use the shotgun attachment at someone at point-blank range, have clearly hit them in the face, and still end up dead, and just be like... "Wha...?" Also the recoil on the automatic weapons really throws your aim off something rotten, I know you have to fire in short controlled bursts, but this was ridiculous. Or the way you'd open up an entire clip on somebody and they'd just turn around and shoot you.

So strange. I guess part of the problem is getting so used to First Strike, though that said I play plenty of other FPS games without issue. Most likely it'll be the fact that I have my controls set up for playing FS and they're a little too twitchy for BF2142.

Was still fun to play those old maps again and experience the new ones. Might give it a shot again sometime, but perhaps tweak my settings next time.

And yes, it's vanilla, but the most dedicated bunch you'll ever see. I was wondering if they would try out FS. You couldn't ask for better people. Plus, many of them don't know what to play after, since 2142 brought them together. If we showed up they might see the same in us, you know?

For some games of BF2142? Hmmm, could be around for that if I can stay awake, did a late one last night to get the first semester assignment for my PG Cert Degree in today on top of everything else, but at least that means that it is done for now and I can get a bit of my life back, just got a mountain of assignments to mark now, heh, no rest for the wicked eh?

If I haven't collapsed by then I might make an appearance, but to be honest I'm already flagging, might have a nap and get up for that.

6pm EST?? Whats that, like 2300 GMT? Which would be midnight CET...pretty late for a lot of euros but I shall try to stay up for it. If any other guys fancy staying up to see what its like then I'm in. I can provide a vent server if people want coms, unless BI would like to help host the coms for this one?

Guys, hop on the TG server quick! Their last game is on, and we don't want to miss it. Um, I'm not sure at what time it is, they weren't clear on that, but hop on all the same. I don't think it starts until a few hours from now, but they already are playing. This could be much needed players for FS. We need to show our support.

Also, I'll give you TS3 details, but I can't remember them right now. I strongly encourage you to hop on their TS3, as they are very team oriented, plus talking couldn't hurt.

EDIT: You won't be able to join TS3 due to some complex security measures. I asked if they could change it. Sorry.

And the event starts at 6PM EST. You better be there!

Hey guys I agree alot, if not all mods rely on the community, another mod which died early on was bf pirates 1+2 loved those mods lol. I do think though that if the hoth update ever gets released there may be a spike in players but they would need to be captured into staying (lol).

I would have helped play on the servers but up until recently my bf2142 stopped working again and I couldn't find a fix until a few days ago when I also had a simialar problem with mount and blade and it fixed both games.

Anyway I would like to offer somewhat of some help, although it might not get used. I admin a vent (50 man) which is pretty unused, its from a star wars galaxies emulator community so the two aren't all that far apart ha. If people want to hang around afk in it untill people get on and know eachother want to play etc or play whilst talking(which is always more fun) hop on.

Heres the info, if it is actually helpful might make a thread with the details on it...

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the support of the community and realise that the lifespan of the average official released game, never mind a mod can be less years than the time since we released our first public version of First Strike up to now. New games come out and people move on to the next big thing. The thing is I believe there is still life in the old girl yet, and as long as people want to play this mod we'll continue producing new content for it, but if nobody is playing this obviously effects morale, and puts off any potential new players who decide to try us out.

Indeed a middle ground has to be found, sure you're not going to play FS every day, but it is up to the community to organise times when you can all get together and play, whether it is on the weekly Community Games or some other organised event. There is a need to come together in large enough numbers to get the full First Strike on-line multiplayer experience. That is the only way we're going to see a resurgence in numbers playing the mod, and the addition of some new blood into the FS community.
