As to jetpax, that decision was made by the community. We had constant feedback from people saying the jetpack was ruinging the map due to half a team waiting in one spot for that kit, then killing each other to get control. That left the rebels to pretty much run over the map. The imps that were trying to play the game felt very let down by the members of the team and the maps overall makeup as a result.

I have said I'd put the jetpack in to a SP map for future use so people can have fun doing it and use it in SP or Co-Op but ver few people responded. Though...I have actually added it as permanent kit selection items in a SP/Co-Op map that is currently under going testing and has not yet been publicly released. imps get bounty hunter kit instead of the officer kit, Rebs get the Jedi. Its a lot of fun.

Getting the mod working with steam shouldn't actually be that much of an issue, though.  At least there will only be one launcher for all versions (no worrying about OS or deluxe edition or anything).  It's quite possible that FS will work with steam right out of the box(?), depending on how steam generates its BF2142 registry info.

One issue that will come with steam, though, is likely punkbuster will have FITS with the steam overlay.  BF2 on steam had the same issue.  It's possible to disable the overlay, but I bet a lot of people give up before then. :<

EDIT: Infact, with the latest patch, I believe all BF2142 versions have the same (no CD) exe, so it really is possible that FS will work straight away.

@ TK, when I was talking about problems that might be caused by STEAM, I'm more talking about issues with making First Strike compatible with it, what with our update facility for First Strike, and the compatibility issues we had (and continue to have) with 1.51. Rather than STEAMs effectiveness as a software distribution system.

Steam has been excellent for me. 

Very simple updates, no searching around for the latest patch, automatic re-installs from Steam if you need them (probably wont anymore), etc.

My experience with Steam has been very streamlined and easy. 

Will still need to keep promoting the game ofc to get ppl on, but may have alot less posts in the support section.

The bf 2142 forums are the worst for the updates and confusion there are some old patch threads which are stickied which have incorrect information... I mean cummon!
