Try looking in places like EB Games, or GameStop in malls. Usually there is a section of older games still being packaged in the big boxes, and I think I remember Alliance being sold in a package deal with x-wing and tie-fighter. If you can't find that then I'd keep my eye out for it to be sold simply in a jewel case.

Any idea where I could get a legal copy of it? I really want to play it, but I can't because my illegal copy won't work with the neccesary patches and I would like to play some multiplayer vs. with you guys

i own it, i play it, i love the option for invincibility and unlimited ammo in the options. i will download that

There's also freespace 2, and it also has a complete overhaul "upgrade"

Hello.. first time poster here, but long time reader. I stumbled across a gem on the internet the other day and it invaded my mind with such force that I just had to share it with you guys. I'm not sure if this has already been posted, but if it has feel free to drag me out back and beat me with garden hose. I came across an upgrade for X-Wing Alliance:

This is essentially from what I have read a complete graphical overhaul of the game. They have redone a ton of the models and skins giving the game a more "up-to-date" feel. I'm not sure about you guys but when I think of the greatest Star Wars games ever the X-Wing series is almost the first thing to pop into my head. There is simple multiplayer included with the game, the only trouble is finding a copy out there. I'm pretty sure X-Wing Alliance is priced at about $10. While I'm not condoning illegal activites.. if enough people look around I'm sure there is a place to download the game somewhere out there for free. Okay, so I am condoning illegal activities, but it's not like this game is readily available at most local game shops. I personally don't own a copy of Alliance, but I'm going to quest around until I find one. I wouldn't mind flying a couple of missions with whomever else is interested in some multiplayer action.
