I'm about 99.99999999% sure that the 360 thing is not true for a variety of reasons, one being that the 360 architecture is PowerPC based - and will not run well on x86 architecture-based CPUs such as the Pentium 4, Pentium D, AthlonX2, Athlon64, etc.

The DVD drive thing is not an issue... Xbox 360 discs are dual-layer DVDs just like the average movie DVD. They just require specific on-chip firmware to decode their copy protection (which I'm guessing people are thinking Microsoft would then do in software?) I really doubt microsoft will risk losing sales of 360s with a strategy like this - why buy a 360 when you can get a full PC for a few hundred more?

Virtual memory is just that, virtual. It's basically pre-allocated space on your hard drive that your memory (RAM) will read from when page faults occur (the requested data isn't in RAM)... I would go into the whole process of explaining it, but that will bring back bad memories from my Operating Systems design class lol..

Thanks buddy, you may have just prevented a catostrophe. Heres another question. If I get a geforce 6800, thats built for direct x 9, correct? Will I be able to make use of Direct x10?

Virtual memory is only for when you run out of RAM. If you've ever been doing some really memory intensive stuff on your computer and it started to run reallllyyyy ssslllooowwwwlllyy, like if it takes 3 seconds to draw an explorer window, then your computer is pulling on the virtual memory. No, don't use your extra harddrive for it because A) you'll likely never use it, and B) if you do you'll wish that you had more ram.

Vader, DX10 is the greatest thing Vista can offer gamers. You won't be able to use the new blazingly fast DX10 video cards without DX10.

Wo. That I did not know. I've acttualy got 2 hard drives, one with an extra 114 gigs I doubt I'll use for awhile. Would it make a noticeable difference?

Yeah, the harddrive RAM has been around forever. It's called virtual memory, and it's only like 5% of the speed of low end RAM.

You know, if memory sticks are possible, might it be possible to dedicate a few gigs of your hardrive to ram use? Now that would be a feature.

Memory sticks can be used as RAM? Is that possible? (I don't know all of the details as to how the different pieces of computer hardware so maybe one of you techies could explain it to me)

the 360 thing...

how is that possible? the 360's laser in the CD drive is totally different to that in a PC drive... and its not DVD based. only way pos is if its through HD CD drives.. which i believe the next gen 360's will use.. but that would be a big big risk as pc's would have to be alot more higher spec...

and yes the ram feature is amazing.. always wished they used memsticks as ram.. and to read it is a reality is great imo.. Dx10 looks great too..

Well I already have a 360, the real intresting thing to me is that thing about the ram. Though it may take me quite awhile to raise scratch like this.

I agree this sounds really strange to me.

I know that X360 additional hardware works on windows vista but entire games sound strange to me. I think the x360 copy protection would require a special disk drive or at least a pretty new one.
