One of the most intersting reads I have had on a forum for a long time.
Some excellent questions and points of view Stevanyss, and some excellent replies from the Devs.

In response to the PR game play post, I like to play 2 types of game depending on what mood I'm in, which is why most people have multiple mods loaded on their pc.

Realism - to the real world or to a movie, in this case Star Wars and FirstStrike
Arcade - fly or run around shooting the hell out of anything that moves (except for team mates of course lol)

I for one am very impressed with the levelheadidness of the responses from the devs and have a lot of respect in the fact that this mod will be a great one.

Re. modding and comparing to 2142.
As a modder myself, I think I can safely say that each mod team hates the way that bf2/2142 works, plays and is being improved from the manufactured released version.
Most mod teams look to build outside of the restrictions that the manufacturer imposes on us.
As an example, RoK had zero gravity flight for all space maps and 6 degrees of control using keyboard/mouse or joystick. This had never been done in any game released on the battlefield engine (as far as I know). And i'm supremely confident that space maps within FS will be equally as impressive.
The game engine and Python coding are very powerful indeed and what you see in the manuafacturers released versions of the game just scratches the surface of what the game engine can actually do.
There are a lot of mods out there that just 'plug' themsleves on top of 2142, keeping the original hitches, bugs and inaccuract of weapons.
This does not seem to be the case for FS (and others) and therefore comparing against vanilla 2142 is unfair to the mod team.

I look forward to reading more of your well thought our questions/suggestions and the responses from the dev team.

Best regards,
Ells.

I think one-hit kills on (some) vehicles is a good thing. In 2142, when you have the mighty Pilum unlock, you can shoot and kill them buggy's with one well aimed shot. That is perfectly understandable since they are light weight fast little cars with very little armor. I'm not sure what vehicles are planned to go into FS, but if there are some buggy-like vehicles they should have that same weakness against a powerful anti-tank rifle.
The same can be said of the 2142 tanks. It's really fun and challenging to try to get behind the damn thing and pilum him in the arse, which is a one hit kill insofar that when the vehicle is slightly damaged already, before you hit it, it explodes immediately, and when it's in full 'health' it will explode after a couple of seconds. This provides the infantry man, like me, a good chance to stand up and fight against all the armour n00bs (:P).
Again I'm not sure what's planned or not in FS considering this, and I agree it shouldn't be possible to do this with highly armoured vehicles (AT-AT) but in my opinion it is a very fun part of the gameplay in vanilla 2142. And that's basically what I'm trying to say here... one-hit kills against some vehicles can be a good thing, but it should also fit the gameplay of the game, or mod, in question. It works in vanilla 2142, but will it work in FS? I am inclined to think that it won't work well in FS, but again I'm not sure...
Damn, I don't know much, do I?

So what's the "community's" view on this?

But at least he knows it, so I suppose that's good.

Anyway, I disagree about 1-hit kills on vehicles, just cause that would be a major bitch, but I see what he's saying. Weak points on things I agree with though - and actually back in the SWBF1 days I got a mod called the "realism mod" or something of that sort, which altered the weapons to do the amount of damage they were supposed to, altered the jetpacks so they had more fuel, but it didn't magically refill itself, and altered the health so that you died more easily (though armoured characters like stormtroopers took more damage than non-armoured). Oh, and it gave the darktrooper and shocktrooper more accurate guns.

But still, I think I agree with a comment made earlier that I managed to look at the site and the forums and come on with almost no questions about the mod. I had a good understanding of what was going on and I have utmost faith in the FS team.

Hopefully they'll finish the mod, unlike every other ubercool mod I ever latched onto which usually never made it past second demo.
