One way to solve it is to have control points go gray very fast when occupied by enemies. But no, it is not really that hard to spawn somewhere else. Yes, you'll leave the control point undefended, but you'll get the chance to actually kill the enemy rather than just spawning and dying.

Oh, and I like the idea that people now die from an average of three shots.

Yeah the Support guns in BF2 were utter crap. First the game comes out and they are totaly over powered. IE hit somebody at 1200 yards with a SAW/RPK/PKM. Not only that everybody spawned with them because of the extra ammo they had IE they had 4 clips. Then DICE nurfed em and they became totaly usless unless your one of the hackers who have aim bots that make your bullets go in perfict stright lines. Even in Iron Sights mode the support weapons in BF2 sucked.

Now in BF2142 the ballance is perfict. I mean sure a support gun has extra ammo, and lots of it. But it comes at the cost of over heating, and being inaccurate unitll you hold the trigger for 2 seconds. It's way more fun to be a support guy in BF2142 than it is in BF2. I hope this system stays in the mod as it works so well. The people you see playing as the support class know what they are doing and can kill you with ease if your not on the look out for them.

It's great to hear that it's not going to take 16 shots to kill someone, ala BF2. Actually, the most aggravating part of it was not so much the unrealistic hit count, but the fact that the weapons were ridiculously inaccurate. Weapons have iron sights on them for a reason....

The best way to eliminate spawn camping is to have no uncappable bases. If there are only a few bases, then the main ones can be made to take twice as long (or require more people, I know PR has a 2 person minimum) to capture.

Plus, games will always be what they were designed to be, games.

I trust the guys that aere working on this are wracking their brains over every question we can post, because they are gamers just like us.

Only let people spawn in one well protected base.. Most troops start at some kinda of staging area and get transported to the fight. This might serve to reduce "camping" as long as spawns are spread out and protected with turrets/bunkers.

I always thought it was kinda weird trying to capture a flag only to have a couple guys spawn on top of you...

I think it would increase teamwork as well.. If most people spawn together I think they are more likely to stay together. I would probably even make it so the Squad Leader beacon was the only way to spawn outside the main base. No just appearing out of nowhere.. i.e. Drop pod from "spaceship".

This might not be good on all maps but I think some of them could benefit.

2. Bunny hopping can be a little annoying... making it so you can't aim while jumping would be good. Jumping should also take some of your sprint stamina. So when you can't sprint you can't jump either.

3. Dolphin diving.. I dunno it seems like the animation might be too fast or just looks strange.. But you could make changing stances take stamina like sprinting does. It wouldn't prevent all of it but it would be reduced to whatever you guys thought was reasonable/fun.

Good map design leads greatly to help avoid spawn camping. ensuring that you don't have 3 spawn points within 1 foot of the flag is the obvious one... but other things...

like put your spawn points in a protected area... but not one that is a dead-end ally (like that one flag, in Mashtuur City, three spawn points, and all three where closed in byt 3 walls... a sniper with some APMs and tank could camp that entire flag)

put spawn points out of range of the flag capture area so you have a chance of spawning out of view of the attacking party... (helps with my personal rule #1 of getting out of being spawn camped... pull up your dress, and run/sneak out of that area as quick as possible, stopping only to turn around and shoot that bastards!)

but I agree on one point with Dutch_Razor... spawn somewhere else for hamsters's sake. jump in a tank, and blow the campers to kingdom come. I never get satisfaction from seeing a spawn camper banned/kicked... but my smile becomes very large and shiny when their dog tags show up on my moniter

No, it doesn't.

For the record: We (The FS Dev team) do not support or endorse spawncamping in any way. We are building this game with the goal of it being a fun and entertaining for everyone. Getting killed less than 2 seconds after spawning is definately not "fun" and we all realise that.

That said, realism does not equal protection. All it does is provide the ability to snap-shoot, which allows players to spawn and have a chance within that 2 seconds of spinning and killing the camper if they know where the person is. Unfortunately though the trade-off for it is enormous. But to provide the "realistic" damage of 1-shot or 2-shot kills fragmentizes gameplay into countless little melees and skirmishes scattered across the map, rather than focused and massive battles with teams needing to concentrate fire to win over objectives

It also gives the player being shot at little chance to defend themselves when they're caught out. As bad as spawncamping is, the thing I hate just slightly less than it is dying from shots out of nowhere. It sucks. I'm walking or running along when suddenly "wallop!" I'm dead. No explination. No way to defend myself. No diving for cover or way to return fire. Just me, dead, in what feels to be a very pointless and aggrivating way. To that extent we've geared our gameplay to avoid that scenario from happening where possible. We want players to dive for cover when they're under attack. We want them to see blaster fire tearing down range. We want to give people a chance to actually play and fight their way through battles, rather than being picked off by people hiding in camping spots.

What we also want is a little skill and knowledge needed for every weapon. Each of our guns (of which there are something like 20+) all have their own niche, their own strongpoints and their own weaknesses. All of them though require a small degree of thinking, because you need to make your shots count here. Knowing how to use the weapons will show the difference between those that will win the games and those that will whine because they can't just point their blaster at everything and kill them in one shot.

I personally believe in creating challenge in our game because I think that'll be one thing that will keep everyone coming back "to master just one more" aspect. I am also a huge proponent of fair play and the ability for everyone to have a chance to play, so if we can get that interwoven into our gameplay without any real loss of quality then it'll be done. And finally, it is everyone's desire to see real "star wars", not "star skirmishes." To that end we want to set new standards in creating actual battlefield gameplay, where teams of random players naturally focus their efforts and energies together, rather than break them apart into lots of little gunfights like BF2/2142 does now. Whether it's spawncamping, vehicle whoring, or weapon overpowering, we're looking to solve all these problems via creating a good gameplay evironment. So far all our internal testing has shown our plans have minimized these issues, though the real "first test" will be when we open up our doors for the beta.

For more info on our gameplay setup though, watch the news press releases. Part 1 of our gameplay overview document has been released, and Part 2 should be soon.
