Tortel! Welcome to the boards!

Yeah, I remembered the map with the VSD hovering over that barren planet. My best memory is actually how simple and novice-ish it looked from above (on the map) and in screenshots, and how great it looked in-game. A prime example of screenshots not doing a game justice. I preferred the map with the green vehicles, though.

I had one with an ISD over a planet (here), and some others.

That is quite an original interpretation of that particular tune. Kudos .

As for the idea, I'd love to have a single Corvette or similar ship hover over a map like a Titan, dominating the area it happens to be over with turbo laser fire. You'd have to have turbo lasers on the ground and/or fighters to have a chance to take it down, though.

You lot have obviously never played my GC custom maps. I had one with an ISD over a planet (here), and some others. It would be great if I bothered to learn how to map, I would try and recreate my maps in 2142.

If ya'll are planning on doing anything with Titan Mode this could work (kind of.) You have a 'vette or something of similar size (maybe a "modified 'vette") The corvette would supply a starting spawn point for each team, as well as a spawn for fighters and armor. You then have to capture the silos (Turbolasers, Ion Cannons, SAM sites, whatever) to bring down the shields and board the enemy ship.

So I'm guessing they must be very small vehicles. But then theres the problem of people getting in the vehicles and moving while in flight. One second your flying, next second, you and 15 other people or floating down along with a bunch of debris. So your going to have to do something about the fact that people might try to move the vehicles to early. The only way I can see the vehicles getting out without them blowing up is if you mounted them in the middle of the ship facing the ramps.

P.S. I realize I posted this in the wrong section. I could of sworn I was replying to the sentinel thing, so it was either sent to the wrong place, I had two internet panels open at once and was looking at one thread and replying to another, or I just was replying to the wrong thing.

I think you've posted this in the wrong thread. Are you talking about the Sentinel?

Well if you are, at the moment we're only planning to have the one configuration, with a forward troop compartment and cargo bay at the rear for light transport vehicles. These vehicles will be small enough to disembark via the two large loading ramps that are situated one on each side of the ship.

Do you plan to have different vehicle configurations for it? I mean like on one map, it has speeder bikes, on another speeders, and on another repulsor tanks. But I guess you could just make both versions and then load them with vehicles. But if the vehicle hold is in the rear of the shuutle, then how do they get out? Will you have what I have affectionately dubbed an Ass-Ramp*TM in the back?

Well the SSD Lusankya was a very specialised and rare occasion. The thing was buried under the surface of Coruscant, so it's not exactly a regular occurance.

As far as atmospheric travel for ISDs, it is possible, as the Lusankya managed it, but only with lengthy and heavy customisation. Standard ISDs are certainly not capable of such flight, and standard ISDs are what we'll be using in First Strike.

Well, If I remember correctly you could have a ISD go into the atmosphere, but only if modified with repulsor lifts, lots of repulsor lifts. They did it with SSD Lusankya in the Rogue Squadron Book series. But it was taking off and escaping, not really entering the atmosphere and patrolling. I would say it is plausible.

It is actually Rogue Squadron II that features the crashed ISD mission. I believe it's a mission to Kothlis, and that there is ground-based combat that you can support directly from the air. I could see it being a good island hopping assault map, with the rebels in a forward command island and trying to fight to the ISD's hangar... and the corvette trapped inside.
