Think it was Sharkbait that released the alt+tab fix. This fix does nothing execpt overide the file "dice.bik" within the same file inside the folder:

Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Movies

This one worked for many players so the best solution to prevent Alt+TAB error in BF2142 vanilla is not to disable the intro movies. As far as I can see there is no "Movies" folder inside the firstrike directory and that might cause the problem. What about contacting Sharkbait from BF2142.se who released the hotfix. Or maybe DICE directly?

All I can say is that this error is PITA. As an editor I'm so used to switch between the game and other programs / tools that I've been stuck over a dozen times now. And even if I realize that I can't switch back I'll have to terminate the game via right click and start it again. And think about the messenger and all the other stuff people like to use / look at while a map is loading. So a hotfix or any solution without having to install Riva or any other third party software would be much appreciated ^^

...or add the parameters:

+szx A +szy B

where A might be 800 and B might be 600 = 800x600

the whole thing should look something like this:

+modPath mods/FirstStrike +menu 1 +fullscreen 0 +szx 800 +szy 600

(to get there: search your desktop icon -> right klick once -> find the "target" line -> change it like above ... also works with other resolutions. Just remind putting in the right values for A and B!)

for windowed mode, set the ingame screen resolution lower then your desktop. then exit and edit you shortcut to fs. change the +fullscreen 1 into +fullscreen 0

yup it works fine sometimes just occasionaly when i switch back even in menus in just doesnt switch and then u get the sound loop and poof the magic dragon it dies.

Ok, try this then, before you alt+esc, press esc once to take you to the menu screen, THEN pres alt+esc. Then try to bring it up again... It would take you back to the menu but its easy to get back into the fight from there just press esc again and you are back in the fight.

A lot of the time I have to do it that way.

If you have an Nvidia card and use Rivatuner,try finding the DirectDraw and Direct3d setting in the bottom customise tab and select the blitting tab and tick the 'Enable wait after blit when DDBLT_WAIT flag is specified' box,you could also try the other boxes on the Blitting tab to see if these help.I read somewhere that these options help with the Alt-Tab lock-ups but cant really confirm %100 that it works,worth a try though.

Alt+tab for me works on all other games except 2142 (including FS naturally). BF2 works just fine and dandy.

I was having this problem too . . . I found that if I reduced the resolution in the game, it seemed to ALT-TAB without any further difficulties.

How do you run the game in windowed mode with Visa?

The alt tab fix did not work. Still will not maximize back.

alt-tab has never worked for me since BF1942 and DICE and EA do not fully support alt-tab for BF2142 or BF2.
I always use the fun alt-F4.

alt+esc works for me in full or windowed. I always hear alt+tab doesn't though so, just don't use alt+tab. Maybe try the new and improved alt+esc
