For me it was actually an encryption issue. I use file encryption and the punkbuster files were encrypted using my software and that made their certificate invalid as they were under my own personal certificate. I did stuff like uninstalling punkbuster via the PB utility, then manually removing any trace of it from the registry and reinstalling via the same utility and even running PBSetup after that. Worst case scenario uninstall everything and reinstall, but thats usually not needed.

No, the servers have been 1.1 servers (I filter them). I've been joining BOC Servers as well as the Defenders of Sovereignty one (when it was up) it's not a version mismatch.

In regards to troubleshooting I did delete all PB files (including the ones in the WIN32 directory) restarted, and ran PBsetup. I found 4 or 5 different procedures similar to this one and tried them all both verbatim and in combination with other suggestions. Basically they all pertain to removing PB (some via PKsvc, some by a simple deleting of the files etc..) then restarting (in some restarting wasn't needed) then reinstalling the PB via PKsvc and or PKsetup not necessarily in that order. I'm not going to type out everything I tried because that would take about 30 minutes or so lol I was at this for at least 5 hours last night after I downloaded v 1.1. I'm going to contact PB support but from what I read that can take a really long time -----> RC2 FTW? lol

Also, do as others said and delete the PB files, run PBSetup.exe, and then make sure to do a system restart. I had the same issue last weekend with PB and those are the steps that actually cleared it up for me. The restart may be critical, as I did everything but restart and it didn't work. However, after the restart it was fine and has been since.

Most likely you are trying to join a server which hasn't patched to version 1.1 yet. Try the BOC server. They have patched and you should be fine. Regarding the other servers, you will have to wait untill they are patched.

Thanks... I've been at this problem for hours now and it's got me stumped.

Somehow installing Patch 1.1 didn't jive with my PunkBuster.

Consequently, I'm having the same problem with regular BF 2142.

I've read probably a dozen forum posts about this exact same problem one of which was about 15 pages and included the longest Hijack This log I've ever seen...

I don't know. Basically pnkbstrb just goes kerplunk and disappears no matter what I've tried. I even made sure all the relevant registry entries were removed manually. Clean uninstall (using multiple techniques) reboot and then a clean install (using multiple combinations as well i.e. using pbsetup first and selecting BF2142, updating then running PBsvc etc....)

Long story short - it's not working. lol
