What Gwynzer said. The perception that ships move slowly is an illusion brought about by the fact that there is no terrain in space, so the only things to compare your speed to are starships, which are big objects. It is also a mistake to judge the speed of space fighters by that of their atmospheric counterparts, as the latter have had their speed and handling significantly reduced.

There are several ways to observe this. The two best ones are to
a) put an FS fighter (a space one) in a ground map and see how fast you cross the map, or
b) watch a BattleDirector recording and try to follow a Capital Ship going at full boost.

I haven't played since 2007. Has 1.4 Fixed the issue above?

Short answer, no. Long answer, there's no issue to fix.

EDIT: Though I do believe 1.2 or 1.3 actually did up the speed of fighters a tiny bit.

Have you got any idea how fast these ships actually go? If you were to put one of these ships in a normal land map without editing its properties, it would fly across the map in a couple of seconds. Infact, these ships fly so fast that they occasianally cause a bug in the engine which stops shots doing damage at such high speeds.

Please, in future do a little more research, all the problems relating to speed were already stated in this thread and countless others.

When you hit "S", your S-foils close on the X-wing. Just a thing..

Anyways.

The battles are already hard enough to process through your mind. I've battled in my x-wing and tie-fighters around capital ships that had moved close to each other.
Running under a Nebulon B, then shifting up to avoid a gallofree at the speeds they go is pretty tough considering you have to bring in that your ship may be large and you have to clear the ship. And in an a-wing and interceptor, that just gets harder.

Even worse is dogfighting around these. Coming out of one of the 'spirals' with an enemy fighter and facing a Nebulon B is scary, barely twisting your ship to get past the foward section, then having to cut underneath it to avoid the larger section because going out into open space means getting shot at easily is amazingly complicated and often spells death for some.

I believe the speed is fine.

there was boosters in the x-wing games let me list them for you

a) sacrifcing shield/ammo supplies in the x-wing vs tie fighter games
b) in both rogue squadron and x-wing vs tie fighter games . closing the s-foils increased speed

but seeing as doing either of those are impossible in the bf2142 engine we'l have to stick with our booster buttons

hi

i'm happy someone else realised the slow ships too

its the same big problem like in all x-wing games ever. the starfighters are damn slow. always i fly over a capital ship and i realise the "speed", i want to exit the ship to push

also i don't like the boost. there has never been a boost in the x-wing games. and it was good like this.
i would prefer if the rebel fighters would be a bit faster and wouldn't have the boost. x-wings should be as fast as tie fighters, but not that agile.

greetings,
DrunkeN

I would disagree on the map size being a problem... the space maps are HUGE

Main reason why it seems slow is because there is nothing to compare you speed against. aka no asteroids or ships usually near you.

I can assure you if you made a asteroid field space map it would be intense.
