I hate having to keep holding down that darn F button for ten hours as it sloooooooowly goes around just because I like my guns in a certain configuration. It also might help in dogfighting if you like to confuse TIEs on your tail tongue

EDIT: Also, on this subject, why does the B-wing not have a boost like the other Rebel ships?
