Lance, if the homing was added for the torps it would most likely ONLY be effective if you were RIGHT behind your enemy or if you were targeting a capitol ship. So then fighters don't have to go straight towards a Capitol ships main fire power to fire their payloads. They could come in at an angle and allow them to lock on and guide themselves in.

That was a force-powered proton torpedo

If anything needs a suite of homing missiles, it's the TIE Bomber. I mean, the Y-wing gets a gunner, the B-wing just kicks pie, and the TIE bomber gets a whole bunch of weapons but skank amounts of armor to ensure their delivery. I say give them like 12 conc missiles that lock on to fighters. Also, make their proton torpedoes (not bombs) lock on to capital ships (save for Gallofree transports). I mean, lore-speaking, TIE Bombers had highly specialized targeting systems that allowed them to pinpoint strikes on capital ships. Might as well ensure an impact if close enough.

Imagine the swarms of X-wings that spawn every 20 seconds, each one with 6 homing missiles...

*beepbeepbeep beeeeeep* Oh crap I have to evade.... *evades it* *beepbeeepbeeeeeep* oh crap.... *beep beep beeeeep* .....damn... you superior Xwings with your locking missiles and shields of doom and...

* * * * *

Homing Torpedoes were never used in the movies against TIEs and only after the Xwing games did the idea of a homing anti-fighter torpedo emerge. If this were a game where you were always the rebels fighting the good fight against overwhelming numbers of TIEs then sure allow lock on... the case is not like that and I can see alot of people complaining about the underpowered missileless TIE's if this were to happen. Superior manuverability helps only in fighter on fighter action NOT missile on fighter action.

cause then you'd have to incorporate a countermeasure system, second you'd would kill the TIE fighter in 95 out of 100 bouts easy (why would you need to go close in when you could just missle from a kilometer out?), and thirdly the X-wing is pretty solid as a fighter/bomber so why give it something that would make it OMGWTFPWNZER!!!

The X-wing wasn't meant to deal head on with TIE's, thats the A-wing's job, deal with it.
