Did you go to the Unofficial 2142 Editor?

http://bfeditor.org/forums/index.php?ac … entry55806

If you didn't thats what would guess to be the problem as BF2 Editor DOES NOT natively work for BF 2142.

Download Part 1 provided in the above link then make a back up file of the ENTIRE BF2142 directory and copy it to desktop, note that this isn't required but I highly suggest it so you can modify BF2142 & FS without worrying about PB booting you for a different version.

Then what I did was extract the files in Part One and place all of them into the copy BF2142 directory on the desktop. Make sure you allow it to replace all files it asks you to replace or this will be pointless.

Now follow the rest of the instruction given in the link above. Note that you do not need to download part 2 if you do not want to edit the original BF2142 levels.

Once you are done, open your copy BF2142 folder and look for an application called BF2editor *its a bulldozer icon* and it should initialize.

Remember you wont be able to use any FS objects if you don't follow TY's instrutions in his sticky.

Beware, Vista will cause the BF2editor to crash if it warns you with a "security warning" (generally asking you to allow an EXE program) so save often. I've lost a good deal to that.

EDIT: After leaving my comp with my map saving I come back to find that BF2editor had crashed. This is a normal thing for me so I didn't think much of it, but when I went to run it again it mentioned not being able to find the file you were having problems with. It told me to reinstall to fix it. I tried to start it up a second time, no luck, but the third time it started up as normal... odd. Just putting this out there as a reminder incase your problems are something I'm missing.

I'm running Vista and do not have BF2 installed.
Downloaded the editor and extracte the files as TYD2 described in the sticky.

But when I try to run the editor I get "This application failed to start because BFMFC.DLL was not found." I tried re-installing the editor and still the same error.

Googled BFMFC.DLL and downloaded but cannot see the file. Everyhting is running in XP compatability mode.

Any suggestions? Google searches come up in languages other than english and my english aint that great to boot.

EDIT: I found the BFMFC.DLL and it is under bf2editor file. So I moved it to the BF2142 directory file. Then I got an error for the Memory.dll file. It was actually lableled EditorMemory.dll. I cpodied it and renamed it Memory.dll and the editor is working.

Looks like you have to rename all .dll's omitting the word "Editor". Leave the original, copy and rename accordingly.

Edit2: now getting failed to load RendDX9.dll

What follows is a simple list of things/problems that you may encounter while mapping. Learn from our mistakes.

Battlefield 2 is NOT required to map

http://bfeditor.org/forums/index.php?ac … entry55806

Follow the instrutions there, and you dont even need to buy Winzip I used WINACE which was free.
(Credit goes to Thomazz for finding this link)

*****One thing that might be of note; when I ran this via BF2 I don't remember getting an Error stating "Device stopped working, couldn't find device" but now it seems to happen a good bit if I'm Alt-Tabbing (at least thats what I'm attributing it to). It could be an issue with running it via BF2142 so save often!

If you want to do overgrowth/undergrowth painting but can't find the proper textures/geometry...

Make sure you Unzip all folders in the BF2142>Mods>FirstStrike>Object directory labled Vegitation_Client and Vegitation_Server. THEN put them into a file titled "Vegitation" in the Object folder.

Are textures not showing up properly and a Darth Tater/ UncleSam picture takes its place

You have not placed the "Commons" (which should containt Commons_Client and Commons_Server unzipped) in the proper directory. Make sure they are in BF2>Mods>FirstStrike>Objects or BF2142>Mods>FirstStrike>Objects (this pends on what editor you use).

Is your Editor initializing and then crashing after reaching a certain point?

Look on you console before you exit out of your crashing editor and it should mention what the problem is. For me it said something like "could not find Bone animation Soldiers _what ever file is the problem_". Then go into your Objects folder and remove the folder that contained the error. I removed Soldiers.

I do not know what causes errors like these and my solution doesn't FIX it. It just removes the problem all together.

I'm running Vista and DirectX 10 but when I start up the editor it comes up with an error saying I must have DirectX 9.0c or higher? WTF!

This is a result of faulty detection methods of BF2 editor, basically it see's an incompatible OS and registers the Direct X version as a 0. To fix this right click BF2editor, click properties, go to compatibility, select "Run this program in compatability mode: Windows XP Service Pack 2." Woot.

MORE TO COME, others Feel free to post your own problems and solutions.
