1. Hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE. If a window doesn't appear after a few seconds, then continue.

The window's first two tabs have important lists on it, as seen below...

Applications (1st tab)

Processes (2nd tab)

Notice both have "End" buttons, and have Battlefield listed.

2. I'll hit ALT+E, ALT+E again, then ALT+Y.

That's ALT+E (presses the End Task / Process button), then ALT+E again ("End Task" button in case we're at the Applications tab and it showed a confirmation message), then ALT+Y ("Yes" button in case we're at the Process tab and it showed a confirmation message).

3. If there's no response, maybe we're blindly at the wrong tab. In that case, I'll press CTRL+TAB to go forward a tab, and repeat the Step 2 keystrokes.

4. Considering there's only 5 tabs, repeat step3 up to 5 times, so you've gone through all the tabs.

5. Still not working? Hit the Reset button on your computer (newer computers sometimes need you to hold the Power button to restart).

Despite your initial instincts, the computer will wake right up just fine... you'll have lost any unsaved data (of course), but research online shows that it doesn't corrupt Windows or similar. It's more annoying than anything.

Ha! I never properly shut down my computer! Power button FTW! It's easier...Especially if you get that thing where you've been playing a game for a long time, so it takes a crapload of time to exit. Besides, since I updated some stuff in my computer a while ago, I have thing funny thing where If I shut it down properly, I still need to push the button after anyway. Besides, I need to reformat anyway, it wont be to big a deal if my hard drive gets wiped.

NTFS coupled with modern hard drive platters = less than .1%. Probably less than .01%. .1% would mean that on average every 1,000 turnoffs the hard drive would fail once. I've turned off my computer a lot more than 1,000 times so the chances of even .1% are slim.

In old disk models, sudden power interruptions or a power supply failure sometimes resulted in the device shutting down with the heads in the data zone, which greatly increased the risk of data loss. In fact, a manual procedure existed for parking the hard disk heads before shutting down the computer.

To prevent such situation, most modern HDDs, when powering down, move the heads to a landing zone, an area of the platter usually near its inner diameter (ID), where no data is stored. This area is called the Contact Start/Stop (CSS) zone. Disks are designed such that either a spring or, more recently, rotational inertia in the platters is used to safely park the heads in the case of unexpected power loss.

That is correct and what my estimate was based on.  I was being generous with .1%  it's probably a lot less than .01%.. Close enough to pretty much say it's zero.  Hard drives automatically compensate for power loss.  Data is too important to be lost on inevitable things like power outages so Hard Drives have been modified in order to accommodate.  If your Hard Drive is more than 5 or 6 years old then you might have need to worry.

Another thing too, is that it doesnt go to the blue screen of death, it just stops; the picture is like it is pasted the the pc screen.
