Actually, you both might be right... according to the manual Tie Bombers carry a complement of "Proton Bombs / Proton Torpedoes / Ion Blast Missiles (Map Dependant)".

But you say you didn't see that on the other map... maybe it depends on the map size too? 64-player vs 16-player?

I'm gonna go mess with Multiplayer > Local > Create, see if there really are map-dependent TIE weapons... bbs!

For those of us who've remapped all our keys, could someone tell me: If you went into configuration and found the "F" key in the pilot controls... to which description would it map?  Weapon 2? Alt-Fire? Which key description should I map so I can use ion cannons?

im pretty sure it would be change weapon. you can use it to change infantry guns

Y-Wing (turret, hit 'F' to change to ion cannons), TIE Bomber, and I think the B-Wing.

And what ships own the ion cannons ? Ywing / Bwing & Tie bomber or more? And can you get hit by 'Hoths Ion cannon ??'

I use them in tandem.  I slow a ship down--fire 4 missles, then back to ions, then 4 more missles, etc. repeat.
