Although technically speaking, both are airspeeders rather than starfighters. In which case it's the A-wing, for the speed you need for getting out of sticky situations fast!

Which fighter I prefer depends on the map and faction. In both maps, the imperial fleet has the task of destroying cap ships, so my ship of choice is invariably the tie bomber. While its maneuverability sucks, it actually seems to be better than the B-wing.

If I'm playing as rebel, I take the B-wing if the mission is to destroy cap ships. Despite its poor maneuverability and speed, it has a withering array of firepower.

If it's dogfighting that's to be done as a rebel, I generally choose the X-wing. While the A-wing is probably a slightly better dog fighter do, again to its speed and maneuverability, the X-wing is also fairly maneuverable, also has thrusters, sports more firepower than the A-wing, and carries some torpedoes as well, making it a versatile choice. It also seems sturdier than the A-wing, but I'm not sure if that's true or just my perception.

Still, an A-wing isn't a bad choice and if I were sure all I would be doing is dogfighting (for instance it's Escape from Hoth and the Star Destroyers main guns are down) I might go with it over the X-wing occasionally, depending on how my opponents are flying.

Now, the Y-wing I'm not sure I get. It doesn't seem to have any particular strengths...

but Vaders proto type is pretty cool.

And according the canon, the Firespray (The type that Slave 1 is), is classed as a Prison Transport and a Patrol and attack craft...

While I am on it though, a lot of people accuse me of hacking when on a space map, one because I was in an X he was in a TB and I had half hull but still shot him down head to head. Why? Because he flew straigth at me and I flicked a few torps his way which kinda helped. Don't go head to head against ANYONE if you can help it unless you just want to cause damage or are very confident, it aint worth it. Best way is to get behind as close as you can and then open up. If you see a target, dont go swooping straight down on it, if you can see him he can see you, keep him at the corner of the screen and move forward, he might then think you aren't after him and carry on to his target. Then swoop round and come behind him. Fighters, your job is to get rid of bombers, rely on team mates to get rid of others on your back. If you particularly like being cruel and are good at knowing where you are, flicking round in circles to confuse your pursuer usually results in them smashing in to a nearby big metal thing. Likewise, if you have two people chasing you a lot of the time they fly in to each other. If you are chasing and a team mate joins in, break off, you will hit each other!

They're not starfighters, they are modified cargoships, Sort of like comparing a Spectre Gunship and an F-16...

My fave is the A-wing on the Rebels side and the Imperial Missile Gunboat ...but to be fair my imperial choice would be the Tie Interceptor.

Yeah, the N-1 kicks major butt. I love the ARC-170 and am quite partial to the Delta-7, Eta-2 & Alpha-3 starfighters, but the ARC-170 is probably my 2nd favorite fighter of all time. lol
