I disagree, strongly.
insurgency was really cool, I must admit, but there the weapons are stronger, and more made for long to medium range battles. the teamwork in that mod comes strictly because of the quick kill, because one shot can kill you. unless that was implemented into first strike, which I would strongly object against, there would be no teamwork in such a situation as your mos espa idea, and there would be people running everywhere, a lot of chaos, hardly any flanking whatsoever it would be a battle of speederbike taking control points, and soldiers running a long time to get somewhere, and think about it, how much fun would it be if you had run for like 5 minutes to get to a controlpoint at the other side of the town, to get killed almost on the moment you get there and to have to run that time again?
everybody would become medic! or sniper,so they won't have to run that long.

Don't want to sound dismissive, but it is a race map already, in a sense. Both the streets and the outside of the town, with the hills and vaporators, are great for racing. All you need to do is gather your server-mates, agree on start and end point (Commercial District to Slave Quarters through city, for example), and get racing. I've done it a few times when there weren't enough people on the server to actually fight.

But yes, it'd be kinda fun to have really fast speeder bikes in a race version of the map. Maybe some obstacles like auto-firing turrets or minefields or something, too. But I don't the developers will make it, more likely it'll be a third party minimod.

When thinking about it, it'd be nice if the Imperial landing zone were off-limits to Rebels. You want an AT-ST, capture one in combat. Driving right in there and stealing one is for beginners, not to mention that no one ever scuttle their speeders when going in there, meaning that the Imperials gain a new vehicle they'd otherwise not have. And Combat Speeders can do a lot to distract Imperials as it is on that open stretch between the city and the hills, they don't need to get all the way up close and personal. Especially on the 64 player map, it's impossible to guard all three vehicle spawns, and stealing vehicles is shamelessly easy.

Just brainstorming here... maybe you could have some sort of... not CTD, precisiely, but some sort of retrieval or 'insurgency weapon cache' mode? I know it's just a background story to give a reason for the fight over the city, but there's supposed to be a hidden computer or whatever with the location of the base on Hoth in the city, right?

What about making some sort of system where you have to find it in addition to capping flags (for ticket drain and spawn points?). The Empire doesn't know where the disk is, but at a certain point in the game the Rebels learn its position, and shortly thereafter the Imperials do as well, and from thereon it's a fight to protect the disk from capture, or to get it safely to the Commercial District (Rebels) or Landing Zone (Imperials). Maybe it could be in the form of a hovering crate or something (you know, the same way Han, frozen in carbonite, was 'hovered' to Slave I) that you pushed ahead of you (vehicle with the 'driver' assigned a 'crate-pushing' animation) the way you could push the AT cannons in Pirates around. The crate would be indestructible, and the map would end when it reached one side's base. A tug-of-war, as it were. It could just as easily have been a pick-up kit, but we all know what the devs think of those, so I guess that's out of the question.

Precisely .

It's fun as Heck to jump into the Junkyard to disrupt the rebel defenders, but when playing as Rebel, I want to stand on those crates or on the balcony and have a firefight with the Imps across the open stretch of sand at the Imperials, not combat annoying speeder bikes. And I just know that one day there'll be a game where four people get onto two bikes for then to jump into the junkyard together. And then we're in real trouble.

Yes, people are going to complain about this. Sudden increases in challenge level are often criticized by a significant number of people. It's like how every time an MMORPG nerfs an overpowered weapon, the forums get flooded with 'OMG MY 1337 BLASTOR IS NOW USELESS THIS GAME NOW SUXX!!!11'. I can live with that, as I believe that if this works, it'll be such a great addition that people accept it eventually.

Safe has been thinking about PR I bet

Don't quite know what gave me the idea, but seeing how successful this system is in PR is admittedly one of my reasons for posting this thread - I know it can work very well.

Having said that, though, I still think most maps should work as before, it's just that Mos Espa is so very suited in my eyes to this kind of gameplay that I think it'd be a shame not to implement it.

How many times have you gotten a lift from sombody who just brings you to the middle of nowhere where neither of you are usefull.

Then tell them before you leave where you need a lift to. As a driver, send 'where to?' before starting to drive. It's not really that hard.

You know, there are times when I contemplate making a realism version of FS once the mod has a big, stable fan base. You know, the same way those other people made a realism version of Desert Combat. Make it more of a PR-style experience. Will probably never happen, though .
