It worked much better - although that was still a relative term, it was still quite choppy. A preloader would go a long way
I would like to ask, though - where is the server located? I know that a lot of players are located... well, located away from myself, and I'm curious as to whether or not my location (West Coast, Canada) is having an impact.

But yeah, the videos still look amazing, and they actually played much much more smoothly than the high-res. 'Course, it might be that my graphics card sucks, but I didn't really notice a difference.

And congrats on writing the software, it's more than I could do.

Merry Christmas (or whatever the politically correct version is) to you too!

There will be a UI (user interface) on the final version ...
keep in mind this thing is totally hand coded and is as low-profile as it gets. 56 kilobytes size for the player itself. The videos on this version are around 150 megabytes on the server.
Tonite and tomorrow I will re edit the films in a slightly lower resolution
to accomodate non fiber-optic clients in high res mode, and create new versions of the same clips
for low bandwidth clients. The sound track eats some of the bandwidth too since its sampled at CD quality.
My goal is to give people a quality peek at how good the game looks, of course promoting it better.
In the end, this player can be posted on a site giving a better sample than you-tube is willing to provide.

thanks for your input everyone, these things are a lot of work, but I feel the game is totally worth representing in the best resolution possible.

plus it goes toward my college degree plan as project credit -:P

Goodness, when you said "some chop" you meant it. I had to reload 5 times before I got 2 seconds on the first video, and this is with a high-speed ADSL connection.

Also, will there be control options? Will it be possible to pause, reverse, etc.?

Having the extra time needed to sit and code this weekend , Ive gotten a much more complete
streaming preview player prototype ready.
Two high resolution videos are linked, but it will have unlimited capacity.
The next challenge will be assembling the other preview videos from footage already captured.
Of course filming even more footage will be needed too.
The settings on this player are very high, so only fast connections will be acceptable at 1st.
My ultimate goal is to have two bandwidth settings, one for blazing fast connections ( T1 - FIOS,U-verse ...etc), and another for so-so connections ( everyone else).

Since the settings are so high on the prototype, if you get some chop , just keep reloading until your computer has cached enough data-stream for smooth preview.
This will all be adressed in the final copy.

http://www.coolanddry.net/FS_player.swf

Its without the star wars themed skin, but you get the idea of how it will work with this example .
