For Facebook? Just make a fake account with some made-up name, up your privacy settings so no one can search for you in the first place (especially important when using a fake name, otherwise you'll get 'is that you?! long time no see'-style messages), and in you go.

Could be an idea to add a name - nickname table to the Group Description.

Brent Hengeveld - Jafar
Sam Olson - RedMonkey (?)
Øyvind Sagenes - Safe-Keeper
And so on. When people state in the forum or on the 'wall' what their online name is, add it to the Group Description.

Facebook is a good tool when it comes to keeping in touch and making plans, but with all its applications and whatnot, it's turning into another MySpace rather quickly .
