Free killing machine? All it has is a single slow blaster that has maybe 30 degrees of movement. Now if you were to add a melee attack, such as swipe or stab (all those arms and they're not even used...) then maybe it could be considered lethal.

The probe droid is funny in that it's very weak in the hands of beginners, and then suddenly becomes extremely lethal and overpowered in the hands of someone who's experienced with it. I've faced probots in the hands of experienced players, and it's not fun. Basically, the thing sees you while you don't see it, its blaster cannon is actually quite powerful, and it's got enough armour to sustain far more damage than it logically should.

It's been suggested that its sensor radius be upped while its blaster and armour are nerfed, and I agree with this 100%. This'd mean it'd no longer be overpowered, and that it'd actually be used like a probot and less like a Terminator droid with PMS.

Ty is 100% correct. As we have experienced in work on previous mods, the droid becomes a literal "free ride" for whomever is in it. They fly about accruing points yet never actually being killed, which actually tends to annoy players on a sort of primeval level. As such having a "neural-electrical control feedback overload" killing the operator is a decent solution to the problem.

It simulates that the operator is so ashamed that he lost the Empire a 200 000 credits device that he commits Hara-Kiri by overclocking his stun baton and running it up a certain place. It's just not animated because it would up the age limit from PG-13 to X .

Remote control projectiles (like tv camera missiles) also don't work because, while we can get them to float about we cannot weld firearms onto them, meaning the blasters would no longer work.

I'm still waiting for that remote-controlled Imperial Hunter-Killer droid . The one the HWS carries with him. Scouting maps with the Rebel remote would be cool, too. Maybe a small remote launcher would be something for Mos Espa?

Actually I'd perfer that the Probe Droid were more of something that you don't control directly. Maybe tell it to move to a location in a similar manner as the titan (point-click to the location you want it), just have it float somewhat higher to avoid obstacles and be immune (or at least resistant) to collision damage. There would still be a scanner and the blaster, which would be automated and need a medium-length lock-on time along with a larger arc of fire. Maybe there could be a camera that the commander could hook up to, too, just for a glimpse of the area. And by not having to control it directly you can fight on the battlefield alongside it, probably doing more good for your team than you would otherwise.

So really, nerf it.

There is no "teleport script" that'll work to put you back at the console because we can't make you pop out of the vehicle on death. And even if we could (or if you exited the vehicle) then the teleportation power we do have is line-of-sight only. This means that you would be teleported as far as the first obstacle between you and the console (most likely the outter wall of the building). That wouldn't be much good either.

Remote control projectiles (like tv camera missiles) also don't work because, while we can get them to float about we cannot weld firearms onto them, meaning the blasters would no longer work.

So, with all the inherent limitations of the engine here, there isn't really too much option on what to do. The droid is just an extra, an easter egg almost that you can use if you so desire. As such, seeing as there is nothing more we can really do (other than fix the lack of decent lateral rotation control) the droid will be staying as-is.

You guys seem to be missing the point here. We have found a way for you to play as the Probe Droid. Now you can whinge on all you like about why you die when the droid dies, or go on about the ins and outs of how the droid operation building works, do you remote control the droid from there? Do you just activate the droid and then simply become the droid for the remainder of that life? It doesn't really matter. The whole point is that you can play as the Probe Droid, so just be thankful for that and move on.
