Google Ads don't give you your money until your site has produced 300 US dollars through Google Ads. Until you reach the $300 mark, it's Google's money. So while it's an OK system, it doesn't produce 'instant money'.

So there's that drawback. Not that I'm a dev with any knowledge of these things, just sayin'.

I don't mind the ads. If it is getting the FS dev team money, maybe they should add a few more.

If you don't like the ads you can right click on them and choose 'block images from x'

seems to have speeded up the loading a little, but i still see non image ads.

I really don't get these sponsors, Star Wars is the most recognisable and supported Sci-Fi, Star Trek aside. No, I bet they want some trashy website frequented by a mob of mindless console addicts, that appears to be the norm these days.

What's crazier is we were unable to find a new sponsor. If you can find a server company wanting to sponsor us that will solve all problems.

The adverts while annoying, can be dealt with, however the slow load speeds are a different matter sadly. Obviously it isn't the FS team's fault, the sponsor is to blame for the need to transfer servers etc, clearly Star Wars isn't their cup of tea so to speak. Honestly though, they must be mad.

Dedicated server would cover needs of all kind:
- SVN repository
- FTP server
- HTTP server
- Gaming server for public matches
- Tester server
- Mysql server
- Storage server for nude pictures of Blitz

And yes, it would be European.

A dedicated server for what? Just the web and forums server? $70 - 80 isn't really that much. The website at present is crawling, if the adverts are not to blame what is? As for donations you can put me down for £10 a month (European or East cost server only)

As some of you have noticed, we put up some ads into the forums. Some of those who noticed even came up with some ideas as to why we put them up.

Is FirstStrike up to something sinister?
Definitely.

Do the Advertisements slow down the forums and page?
Definitely not.

Why are the forums slow then?
Because they had to be moved to be hosted on another server.

Why? The old server was fine!
Yes, but our previous sponsor felt we are not beneficial for them.

So why are there ads now? They slow everything down!
No they don't. As I said they are in place to speed everything up again. We plan on getting money to get a completely own dedicated box which we can use for hosting the page and development of the mod.

Why are you not putting up donation buttons then? Somebody surely will donate. No need for ads!
Because ads kind of guarantee a steady stream of money. With donation buttons people usually do not donate. Especially gamers do only rarely donate if at all.

So people, please please bear with us. Things can only change for the better now. We might eventually be able to get a dedicated server. Please see the ads as a way to keep FS alive. Please don't click them if you are not actually interested in them or we might get banned (or just do it sometimes )

But for the other way: Who would actually and seriously donate money to us? A dedicated box would come in at around 70-80 USD a month plus 140 USD for set up. If we could pay that box on the basis of donations then we will remove the ads asap.
