I am glad what this fix work.
If you have some money to spend, get rid of the mainboard sound an buy a X-Fi Gamer (just the cheapest Card with EAX 5.0).
Less Problems and much better sound, the screaming of the TIEs is even with only a stereo headset incredible.

Dang it! I edited the audio.con file and I set EAX to 0 and lowered the overall sound quality to low. It made no difference...

My Documents\bf2142\Profiles\000x\Audio.con

000x = There are up to 4 folders, named 0001, 0002, 0003, 0004. One for each soldier you had created.

Audio.con is a .txt file, you can open & save it with the editor. (This applies to all .con files)

That's what I'm thinking. It's an onboard Realtek High Definition Audio 5.1 surround sound card. I downloaded the most recent drivers. I'll probably try editing that audio.con and seeing what happens. I also just figured out that it does crash when I click on sound in Vanilla. So something is wrong. Does anyone know where that audio.con file is located in the BF2142 folder?

(CTD because Hardware Audio Acceleration is not uncommon, some games - like Starlacer - are plagued with this problem)

I just launched it using the community option in BF2142. Still crashes just like before...

Ok, here's something interesting. The game also crashes whenever I go into options and click on audio. I don't know if that info will help you guys to know what is wrong...

I didn't notice if you tried to start the Mod through the Community page ingame. If not, you might as well give it a try.

If it works, then you'll know for sure the problem is somewhere in the shortcut. The BF2 launcher deal is unusual, haven't seen that one before...

Yeah, I've lowered everything to the absolute minimum settings. It's got to be something really stupid and simple. I can't even think of anything else to try...
