To be honest. I got so used to using patches, I never even bothered to try it the right way after I reinstalledthis time around. The disc worked this time.

No it's nothing like that. As luck would have it, the problems seems to have gone away with this installation. Never happened before. maybe it's one of the patches. Maybe it's because I have a new computer.

One suggestion, If you are trying to import an old profile saved from an XP install ? completely incompatible with a VISTA installation, and even little things like changing to a new widescreen monitor will lock up your game from working.

I have had this problem in the past. I usually got around it by using cracks. unfortunately there isn't on out yet for 1.5 yet. Anyone else found a way around this.

Re-install your current level service pack for windows. dll's get swapped and lost and service pack can replace. Just a blind shotgun shot in a good direction when all else fails.
If youre running fake chineese windows versions your SOL.

Reinstalled the drivers, uninstalled AVG, disabled Wndows Firewall and it still won't run

For future events, try uninstalling the CD/DVD drive of your PC and then re-installing.

Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>DVD/CD-ROM drives>right click-uninstall

The computer will then find 'new hardware' and re-install the drivers for the drive. This worked for me as I cursed EA and DICE during Christmas (when I'd bought the game for my son).

My quick fix was to try a different PC (installed flawlessly), but that was not the one I wanted it on. So I tried the above fix and it worked.

Hm, if you have a antivirus software, you should set it inactive before playing.
If the antivir scanner checks the process what looks for the DVD such an error is nothing unexcepted.

I'm getting the same problem as Straider had, I've tried it with patches, without patches, with a crack, DVD files on the desktop, image mounted in DAEMON tools, cleaning the disk, lots of reinstallations and clearing of the registry. Nothing works! I really want to try this new version of FS
I'm on Vista (SP1) by the way. It worked when I had XP...

Well I somehow got rid of that problem, I really don't know how. So I started up BF2142/FS and came in the all big black screen. Suddendly I got CTD'd because my antivirus was giving an error. Uninstalled 'Symentec' and I could get into the game after 5 mins. of starting up.

So I don't know how the first thing was solved but. If any other problems occur. Maybe uninstall your antivirus.

I have reinstalled it three times before I posted this.... and it isn't any tools or whatever...

do you have emulation software running (deamon tools, alcohol etc.)?? those can cause that error too

(i have also browsed through the german-2142 forums, though i couldnt find a solution for the problem... only reinstalling )

Alright whenever I try to start BF2142 or FS I get the following message:
"Please ensure Battlefield 2142 Install Disc is in the drive, select OK and restart the application."

And I can tell you, my disc IS in the drive. Now I also tried it to run with a no dvd crack but it isn't working either. Little help maybe?
