Ok, Looks like we've found another bug in 2142, though this is one we can actually use.

As some of you may have noticed, we've implimented a limited commander mode for FS. While he doesn't have the 2142 toys, he can coordinate squads and choose the Officer kit if he so desires. Indeed, I've been using this commandermode to great effect lately and I have to say that it's a lot of fun winning games by shouting at people

Anyway, There is one small flaw though, in that if you become to be commander straight away then choose the Officer kit you will *not* have access to all the cool toys like the sensors or the eweb. In order to get access to them you first need to become part of a squad of 3+ people (counting the SL). You just have to be a member. Once you're in that squad you can then apply for the commander role (don't leave the squad. Stay in it while you apply). Once you accept you'll be taken out of the squad but you'll keep the squad unlock flag on your character indefinitely. As such as commander you'll be able to use the eweb and sensor ping just like any SquadLeader. You will not, however, be able to use the spawn beacon.

Anyway, hope that helps. Despite having none of the toys from 2142 I still find being commander to be both fun to do and a benefit to the team. Or, at least, when the team listens
