You will need to uninstall FS as well as Bf2142, the current patch on bf2142 is 1.40.
You will need to have that patch installed in order for FS to work.
Once it is installed and you are able to start FS, make sure that all server filters are unchecked except same mod only, punkbuster, and all map sizes.
I had problems installing using Vista too, be patient, read the forums.
Your not the first to have problems, theres plenty of help in the forums, and plenty of members here to try and help. Good luck.

I just reinstalled bf2142 and then downloaded fs version 1.25. When I start the game. It says UPDATE AVAILABLE... I get install the bf2142 update 1.25. Yet it continued to say UPDATE AVAILABLE... and I could not enter any of the servers because it would say "You are running an outdated version of bf2142, please download the updated version..."

After redownloading any and all patches I could find that seemed recent, and still getting the same messages. I uninstalled bf2142 and fs and attempted to reinstall bf2142, then the patch. But now, during installation it stops around the same point and I get a message saying "Failed to install bf2142. Please try again from the beginning."

This is driving me crazy. I am trying to get it onto my laptop which is running windows vista. Now, I've had the game since it released and I had this same problem when I used it on my pc. Just like when it was on my pc, when I had originally installed the game, it worked fine and I had no problems playing it. Including when I first installed it on my laptop. For whatever reason on both occasions, I uninstalled bf2142 and will afterwards get this error message when I try to reinstall it.

I really want to check out this mod. I no longer actually play bf2142 because I have frontlines on 360, and only kept the game for this mod when it released.
