I'm really excited to play. bf2142 is my favorite game and star wars is just plain AWESOME. thanks for the welcome! Also one more question will there be seperate shortcuts or will i have to somehow switch in-game?

In BF2142 (and for that matter, BF2) you'll find /mods folders. Every mod you download is installed into its own sub-folder in /mods, and thus the mods don't overwrite the original game or each other smile .
