I've tried lowering my video settings to the lowest settings, but it still happens. I've gone through this forum looking for other answers, but none seem to fit my problem that well.

I was just at the point where I wasn't getting killed every five seconds and now this >:(

One more thing... I freaking LOVE this mod. My hats off to all the developers and everyone else who has made this a totally awesome game! This is the Star Wars game I've dreamt of since Dark Forces came out way back when!

2. Where can I go to get "training" so that I don't get my butt totally kicked on-line? I realize "practice makes perfect" (I'm also downloading the single player mini-mod), but I mean to get tips, tricks (not cheats!) and just basic info on making online play alot more enjoyable. The very few times I've played on-line, it was quite confusing. I was just thrown into the mix and didn't have a clue as to what to do.

Just about everyone of my acquaintance gets mercilessly pwn3d the first time they join an online Battlefield series game or mod; in fact, spawning and dying within 10 seconds or so is pretty common for the first few rounds!

Playing BF2 single player was no preparation for going online with it, despite me having match experience of other online FPSs – and playing BF2 online did little to prepare me for 2142. I usually have a K/D ratio of around 0.5-0.6 for my first 10 hours or so of any new game or mod.

Just dive in, mate. As has already been recommended, join a squad, preferably before you spawn in. One of the advantages of 2142 is a fairly reasonable in-game VOIP which allows you to talk with members of your squad (if you have a mic), so you can ask questions as situations crop up. Check out the First Strike clans section of the forum; some of them run public VOIP servers that are even better for in-game communication.

On the ground maps, playing as a medic is alway good to start with. Hang back a bit, watching your squad's backs and watching how they play. Let them go for the kills. You'll be in a good position to earn plenty of points by throwing down bacta canisters for healing damage, as well as reviving fallen comrades – just remember that you have a good 10 seconds to identify and eliminate a threat before rushing out with the defibrillator!

But now I have another question... How do you know what ship you're going into when you play the rebels on "Escape from Hoth"? I'm getting tired of being a bulk cruiser!

I've tried applying the mod to both folders, but I get the same result.

when I got kicked out of multi-player, I got to the character selection screen, then it said "you have been kicked out due to punkbuster" or something to that effect...

I found on this forum where Bandu suggested installing in this order:

1. BF2142
2. FS 1.2 Full
3. FS 1.25 patch
4. BF 1.5 patch

Here goes.. will let you know if I was successful.. oh, and I also did the punkbuster update, so hopefully I fixed that problem too!

OK... I've done all the above... Things seem to work a bit faster now, but when I try to play single player, I get to where the level ALMOST starts, then it freezes with the "BF2142 caused an error" box. This happens in multi-player as well

I read in the forum here that v1.2 should be installed before v1.25? Is this necessary if I originally downloaded 1.2 full release?

Also.. I got kicked out of multi-player because of punkbuster... why? I don't think I have cheats or anything enabled...

First off, I want to say the whole reason I bought BF2142 is because of this mod. I have been playing X-wing Alliance for several years (with the updated mods... very cool) and Battlefront I & II.

Welcome! I'm in the same boat, I've played X-wing Alliance since the Zone was still up. I came to First Strike for the fighter combat and stayed because I love the ground maps too!

Short term, easiest thing to do is to join a large squad in game and follow their lead. Chances are people will be quite helpful and you can copy what they do anyway.
If you'd like though, you could join a clan that supports First Strike and learn tips and tricks from your clanmates. Squadplay is definitely the way to go in any battlefield game but clan play is a whole other level of fun.

I may be biased but I'd suggest joining the Rebel Special Forces
