Thanks for the very informative problem post. Its nice you have done a little searching already, makes a big change from people posting the same, or similar, problems over and over

The usual place for entering "commands" in the launcher is under File -> Properties. Arguments is where you put things like "+Widescreen 1" or "+ szy 800 +szy 900". However, considering this involves using a .bat file, its probly totaly different way of inputting it.

Tbh, I doubt you will be able to play FS any time soon. Imperial (the launcher coder) has just moved over to Germany for studying, and until he settles down and gets access to the 'net, I can't see any launcher problems such as this being fixed.

Hello everyone

So since 1.4 i experience a persistent crash when launching FS (via launchpad of course

as soon as the screen goes black loading the game, it crashes with an similar report as shown in the first post....the RendDX9.dll report^^

Note: BF2142 (no FSmod) still works fine!

Searching around in this forum i found several solutions describing similar or identical (RendDX9.dll) problems..none solved the prob so far, unfortunately the most promising solution is not clearly described.

The "start /affinity 1" solution(?) found in this thread (respectively also in these: this and this (german)

....but since i start FS only via launchpad i dont know where to add the command or how to create a .bat file for this...or whatever i have to do to play FS againnnnnnnn...

Please give me a super-noob newby the beginner lvl1 description xD

Of course i tried out alle usual approaches: updating vista, video drivers and dx, reinstalling fs 1.4 (full) checking for .bak, reverting launcher and data to v1000, starting via Admin, using XP compability mode etc etc

Then i assinged the bf2142.exe with the tool "CPUcontrol" to a single core (which should have the same effect as the command i guess)....no change, still crash

This makes me doubt about the core solution in general now but i can say then, i tried everything from my side and i welcome any help 8)

Apart from all this....until 1.4 i already enjoyed FS a lot, my big thanks and respect for the devs

Ah..and my specs:

Vist Home Premium x64 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001 (german language)
Mainboard: ASUS P5E3 Premium X48
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz, 2997 MHz
BIOS-Version/-Date American Megatrends Inc. 0402, 21.04.2008
Nvidia GTX 280 (driver: 7.15.11.8048)
RAM 4,00 GB
pagefile 2,00 GB

greetz
Daf

I have couple of solutions, I think this might be the right one.

You are running a Quad Core processor, and BF2142 doesnt even support Dual Cores.

All you need to do is set the affinity to 1, 2, 3 or 4. 1 will use CPU 1 and 2 will use CPU 2 and so on. So you can make it so that 1 runs the game and other 3 will run other programs on the background. The easy way to do this is to open up notepad or what ever you want to use and enter the following:

CD "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142"
start /AFFINITY 1(or what core you want to use) BF2142.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1

Then save the file as BF2142.BAT where ever you want it.

I'm not 100% this will help, but I hope so.

Please post your Dxdiag. To open this program type dxdiag in the Windows Vista start menu search. You should get a window telling your system specs. Wait for it to load, then hit Save All Information button and save as .txt file to your desktop. Then upload it to somewhere, I recommend Filedropper.
