As such I'm a fan of "Han Solo Trilogy III:Rebel Dawn" having never read one and two. It give really great incite into the background of everyones favourite smuggler and also the birth of the rebellion.

  Despite hating the whole yuxzngskm vong war (or how ever you spell it), I thoroughly enjoyed the book "Traitor". It was truely one of the most engrossing star wars stories I have ever read and the final battle was perhaps the most epic ending ever. (Its worth noting that there is no point reading this book if you have never read a star wars novel, it will make 0 sense. According to wookiepidia it was the first SW novel to not feature a single character from the movies)

Hoping it'll be as good as it seems so far.

Fantastic stories about characters that make short appearances in the movies, but you get some great background about. Watching the movies will never be the same.

The Thrawn Trilogy is supposed to be really good.  That's what I'm going to start next.

Aye, that is a good place to start, that set of novels pretty much put in place most of the framework now used by the post Original Trilogy Expanded Universe, and it was here that the Imperial capital planet finally got given the name Coruscant, and it stuck, so in a way that planet was the first EU character to appear in the movies.

The Republic Commando novels are a good introduction to the SW Expanded Universe though, so I reccomend those ones.

I wish Lucas would make a adult movie about how grosesome the clone wars really where, not a childish cartoon clone wars movie.

I think that will be the movie where everyone goes and sees it and walks out thinking, "Well, it looks like George Lucas finally snapped."
