Thanks for the cavalry charge, Talon, but this is water under the bridge now, mate.

I think what Woodrow and many other players really object to is PM spamming in any circumstances. Even though I made full use of the PMs while they were available, my motive in posting here was not to preserve PM spamming. Considering the way I've played, however, I can well understand how people could jump to the conclusion that it was. Actions speak louder than words and all that... However, check my other posts on the subject and you'll see that I have always fully agreed with the notion that players should not be able to deploy PMs quite so readily.

As you know, Talon, I've had some outrageous killing sprees using PMs to make a house interior practically impregnable. I knew while I was doing it that even though it was a legitimate part of the game, those on the receiving end would be hating it. I very nearly agree with the notion that I was wrong to do it!

As Safe-Keeper so eloquently put it, PM spamming was dangerously close to the borders of Exploitistan, that murky area between simply playing the game well and exploiting the mechanics.

I'd like to thank everybody who had the fortitude and forbearance to put up with my PM spamming without instituting a kick vote against me! I mean it! Thank you.

Thankfully, 1.3 has put a stop to PM spamming, so end of story.

I'm in no way saying that this is a perfect representation of how one would go about dealing with finding yourself in a mined environment, but that this is an effective way of simplifying that idea of carefully navigating through a mine field, this in no way makes them redundant as they could still go off, and this still slows down the enemy and makes them vulnerable. if they are having to crawl through a mine field then you have severely limited their mobility making them easier to pick off if you should spawn in the area. I think a good addition would be to have some randomness so that yeah you could crawl past a mine, but occasionally even when you do this sometimes the mine would still go off.

But I guess that is just my evil side shining through.

In general you stay clear of mines, if you can sneak past them they become redundant effectively, as they no longer become something the enemy have to avoid.

But, this mine thing is dragging everyone off topic. At the end of the day everyone has their own thoughts on this and as you well know I'm always going to refer to my own training etc with regards to some features of FS hardware.

ROLE ON 1.3!

Safe-Keeper wrote:

My opinion: the prox. mine is a mine. The dual purpose of most land mines, and please correct me if I'm wrong here, are to deter/slow down attack, and to invoke a medical burden on the enemy. This is how I'd like FS mines to work: they'd be visible, so that you saw them and stayed away from them. And they'd be weaker, so that instead of killing you outright, they ate a chunk of your hit points so that your squad had to stop and heal you before proceeding.

The point of any mine is to kill, maim and injure people, either in direct contact or through radial blast and fragmentation. They are used to deny ground to the enemy, protect an area or building or channel enemy forces to a predetermined kill zone.

Since FS mines cant efefectively blow your leg off and leave you out of the battle while you have treatment, get a flase leg fitted and go through rehab, killing someone is really the only way to replicate this feature. Taking out a group of people in a small area is well within the ability of a mine, dependant on the type of mine and amount of explosive contained. A mine (fragmentation and blast) may well be lethal up to 25-50 meters, major injuries up to 75 to 100 and shrapnel at a radius past that. Again, these distances depend on the type of mine, how it's laid etc.

As to crawling past mines (I know that was someone else not you SK), if you crawled over the top of a buried AP mine do you really think it's not going to go off? Brush past a trip wire and set a bounding fragmentation mine ago and expect no effect? Proxy mines that detect movement, heat etc WILL notice your massive bulk as a sudden localized area of inexplicable heat and go boom. Trust me.

He can be an opinionated moody old git at times (hmmm, I wonder who that reminds me of? ) and I don't always agree with what he has to say, but one thing I can say about him without a shadow of a doubt is that he is a firm believer in fair play, and you will not catch him camping spawnpoints or any of the various other unsavoury practices that might be considered glitching or cheating. This is a guy who flatly refuses to play Rhen Var: Research Facility solely on the basis that it gives the Rebels an unfair advantage because of the black patch bug involving Imperial Snowtrooper's skirts, a bug which only has an effect on some systems, and this is a guy you accuse of cheating?

The tactic explained by him above is a valid one, you can capture that particular CP from around the back of the building and his actions reflect legitimate gameplay, I don't appreciate you making such accusations and would appreciate it if you apologised to Rabid or at least took the comment back.

Thank you.

That is way off based and if I am reading that right, very rude. Hopefully you didn't mean it that way, and hopefullly you wouldn't be acting like that to the people that made this free game for you. We accept criticism very well and in fact 95% of the bugs that were fixed were a result of public and tester feedback.

The "you" in that statement was meant to be Woodrow personally (as opposed to the FS Dev Team), and it was a something of a facetious exaggeration, although it does come across (from the outside looking in) that changing Woodrow's opinion about a feature of the game is something of a rarity. I can respect that, as I'm fairly strong-minded myself.

Sorry if it didn't come across right, but I was a still a bit tetchy at being accused of spawncamping. Believe me, that post is very much toned down compared to the original draft, before I thought better of it. It is definitely not my intention to upset you guys! Nevertheless, if my assertive defence of my in-game actions comes across as offensive or rude, I can only apologise.

I cannot sufficiently express in words my utmost gratitude to all the FS Dev Team for their stirling efforts. All I can do is demonstrate my love of the game by playing the pants off it!

I can hardly believe my luck that the support guy's primary weapons are amongst those made more accurate. The MG-15 and Bowcaster are both awesome bits of kit already!

Now, will one of you please answer my original, very much on-topic query: is the Rhen Var black patch glitch one of the "graphical issues" that's been fixed?
