FS is a mod. bf2142 is a mod. NS is an addon to 2142 (adds some new files, the maps, to the mod called bf2142.). That's technically speaking anyway. So FS is completely separate from 2142/NS from the engines point of view.

You can also play northern strike without any issues. It's a mod and doesn't affect the other gamefiles.

Yes, you can. FS is only a mod,I believe that it does not affect any of your original 2142 files
