Yes, unfortunately it has been abused – as quite a few people hereabouts are well aware.

I was late into the round during which the incident Twigs refers to took place, but it appeared to me that BH kits had been spawned in for the Rebel team only as a means of disrupting the round and forcing a map vote. 'Abuse' is definitely the word that applies there.

I don't have any issues with players using the BH kit that's hidden on certain maps, nor do I have a problem with organised BH kit sessions such as took place last Friday. Yes, I'd like to have a go with it, and I can't say I was exactly happy at being told 'No' when I asked for one and everyone else on my team was flying around. I did actually manage to pick one up, but it was out of 'flying power' and I was taken out by an AT-ST just as I discovered that fact! But that's by the by...

I'm not sure what it has to do with the discussion here, TIEPilot, but I'm pretty sure the Dev Team intended players to make use of the Support Class kit. I do, so what? If you don't like playing with FF Off, then you won't want to play on RT's server, which is fine by me.

You make a good point about the 64-player Mos Espa, Woodrow. 64-player Mos Entha, though, does not get unbalanced as there are no vehicles, very little extra playing area compared with the 32-player map and only one extra CP.

TK punish is irrelevant. You still get -3pts every time some noob crashes into you (that is the way it works) whether or not the perpetrator decides to punish. With friendly fire completely turned off, 'friendly' collision damage is eliminated, which makes for a much more pleasurable playing experience on the space maps. Rogue Tribe is pretty much unanimous about this – FF stays off.

Detpack spamming is not an issue on RT's server, and since you can fly anywhere with a speederbike anyway, using detpacks to blast yourself up on to a roof is not an issue either. About the only 'advantage' of FF Off is you can redeploy your limited number of prox mines.

Rogue Tribe is currently far more concerned about Devs abusing their ability to spawn in the BH kit.

We've fixed the mines so that teams don't set them off providing the correct flag is set. You'll need to update the setting on your server configuration.

I'll see about releasing a server fix to prevent punishing of teamdamage on spacemaps if you desire. But without Teamdamage on we're now seeing a flood of players spamming detpacks everywhere. We'd prefer to have teamdamage as it offers up a bit more realism and quality, though if that's not the case we will have to nerf that weapon as well

The maplist though is of critical importance. You chaps specifically were running 64p maps on a 24p server and since almost all our maps are designed where one team defends that puts them at a severe disadvantage. Mos Espa would be a very good example. There's no way 8-12 rebels can defend a city's worth of flags against a team armed with multiple ATSTs and speederbikes. Other maps with similar problems are EST 64, Research Labs 64, Mos Entha 64, Bestine 64... pretty much any map other than Endor Clearing with 64 players (and even then EC has more vehicles than is needed for only 12 a side). And without that balance the game quickly becomes very miserable to play because one side will usually have an overwhelming advantage.

The maps themselves are all custom-tailored specifically for the playercounts they are expecting. But in all cases: if in doubt then it's better to be smaller than needed rather than larger, as more players won't break gamebalance.

Aye, though I prefer the realism of having team damage on, as JW has mentioned the grief from friendlies setting mines off and punishing you for it just gets old real quick, and well populated space maps are much better too as it just gets too annoying when someone collides into you and you get the minus points for a TK rather than the person who actually did the colliding, which seems pretty random ( I have had many a time when I have been stationary in a ship and had someone collide with me and give me a Team Kill) and then to add insult to injury the muppet usually then decides to punish you too , so yeah, I think we have found that space maps run smoother and are a lot more enjoyable with friendly fire disabled, so I think it'll stick that way for now.
