Yeah...still, cinematic value can go a long way, and some people do get lucky. (See: S-Guy's Random Luck) If you manage to get to the ground in one piece...(Erm.)...and find a safe hiding spot from whatever shot you down, you may have a decent fighting chance. Think, tanks shooting you down, or maybe fighters shooting you down. You could use what little "Fuel" you have to get to a safe(ish) landing spot, and make a break for cover.

I've seen this pic on our forums before, or was that IRC?

Anyways, personally, I think that it wouldn't add much to the gameplay of the mod, but rather only cinematic value, too much work for too little payoff in the big picture in my opinion.

Alright, alright, I can almost hear the numerous groans of "Here we go again", but would it be possible to add an escape pod to a (small) vehicle if it were actually true to the schematics? Basically this came from me reading the Lambda Shuttle schematics and noticing that it can jettison the bridge.

Would it be possible to put a limit on the distance traveled, so the engine would cut out after a bit? I'm writing this mostly with combined arms maps in mind, not space. (Since if you escaped in space you would be swarmed almost instantly.) But thinking of a scenario where the pilot jettisons the bridge and slides into a canyon on Ryloth would be an amazing thing to see.

Now, I can already tell that this idea is probably going to be killed off by a) Coding Difficulties, and b) Too many seats for the engine to allow. Fine, I don't mind at all, since making this all possible is easier said than done, and if I were put into the shoes of a developer I would be booted off the team faster than you can say "You suck".
