I cleared the cache for first strike after I got the shader bug/CTD/no cd error. Atm there is no evidence of a cache for first strike under this fresh install I done today.

I run first strike on xp64 so can confirm that it definatly works with it. You tried clearing ur cache? Not sure it would make ne difference with such symptoms but try it just incase, go to my docs/BF2142/mods/firststrike and delete the cache folder.

+widescreen 1 i tried with and without the brackets, had no effect. the operating system i use is xp64, as for the admin rights I am the only user with full access (administrator). I have removed/deleted the first strike folder. When i run the fslauncher0.0.7.1pub it updates/installs the current 0.8.2 launcher.

Still no joy with the launcher after reinstall. gives no cd error, vanilla 2142 works fine. I tried launching fs via community tab/custom games, it gets past the 2142 logo, gives a black screen for 5-8 seconds then goes back to desktop.

Sorry I've taken a while to get back to u, been at work and couldn't view the ss's.

Ok, first off, the +widescreen 1 should be typed without the quotation marks.

Second, I may have missed a post, but can you tell me what OS you are using, and can you confirm that 2142 works?

Once you have done that, the next thing to look at is program permissions. I see that you have it installed to x86 which would suggest to me a 64bit OS, possibly Vista? If so, right click on the launcher icon and set to run as administrator.

If your still getting no result, then my next course of action would be re-installing the launcher. You can find this in the FirstStrike folder within the 2142 mods folder (since you are a level editor I will assume you will know where to navigate to get this). The program can be found there titled fslauncher0.0.7.1pub. Before resintalling remember to delete all traces of the currently installed launcher from program files/First Strike, just delete that folder (the folder titled First Strike NOT the one in the Electronic arts/2142 folder!).

Still getting problems then report back or get in the first strike IRC channel, or even get me on XFire, theres a First Strike community Group, but if you cant get any joy joining it then my XFire name is TwigMortal.

have u got 2 CD drives? or have u recently installed a new one. When i installed my new drive (replacing the one i used too launch 2142 from) I couldnt get it too recognise the CD, had too reinstall from my new drive before it would work. Guess 2142 checks the serial number of the drive or sumthing when it installs, dam anti piracy things are such a pain!

reverting to 1.3 will not work. The launcher is not compatible with it and you will not be able to join any server should you be successful. First Strike is still on 1.4, the launcher just adds in bug fixing patches etc, if it worked once before it should work again, but if you have two copies of the 2142 folder..are you sure you had it install to the right one?

I might try and revert back to version 1.3, however what might be a problem though highly unlikely is i have a copy of the 2142 folder in the same electronic arts folder which i use for the bf2editor. I had this in the past which didn't conflict with first strike 1.4

Gwyn, read his post, he mentions no launcher error popup, just that it pops up the bf2142 window then drops. Sounds much like a resolution issue to me.

Grab the no-CD crack from gamecopyworld.com. I'm totally theorising here, but if you possibly rename it "firststrike.exe" and replace it with the one in your 2142 install directory, it *MAY* fix the problem.

Again, total theorising, but if it DOES work you will most likely be more prone to crashing. let us know though, it would be interesting to find out.
