I also work for a company which takes care of a large ISP/GSP and server hosting company. http://www.gamearena.com.au

We have over 1000 game and voice servers running continuously ourselves. (both public and rental)

Our company also develops a very powerful game server management software solution called GameCreate, which is used by close to a thousand server hosting companies and private server owners. http://www.gamecreate.com/

With GameCreate, we use two master packages to roll out server software to customers, other hosting companies, private server hosters and the public servers for this GSP/ISP. Both ranked and unranked. (We are an official BF2 and BF2142 ranked provider, using Windows servers)

The methods currently required to update this mod to the latest version are incompatible with our systems as they are with several other large GSPs, so we are unable to provide up-to-date mod servers for our customers, the general public, and for the other users of our server management software.

This is very unfortunate as we provide a very quick and easy to use method for people to set up and use game servers and mods.

As other have requested, I am also requesting a package be offered for everyone, but particularly large GSPs that require a basic file package that can simply be uploaded and unpacked to update the mod.

This is a fairly standard necessity for large GSPs and I believe that the mod would have greater exposure if the server files were offered in a more standard method.

I'm happy to manually update the mod several times a week if necessary. That's part of my job. Using RSS feeds when new server builds are released is also pretty standard fair, and something I use extensively.

Sorry for the long post, but I really think the situation a lot of GSPs are in warrants an explanation and to stress the importance for server files in a particular format.

Ok, Renegade gave me a few suggestions.
It boiled down to changing the firststrike.ply with one of his creation (as the original doesn't like linux) then altering the config.xml.

Problem Is I don't have a config xml- probably something to do with the fact my server is limited to 16 players- if I had a config then I could change that. Just sticking in a config telling it to run the updater will not work because at the moment the server launcher doodads don't reference one.

My server seems designed to only allow me to stick stuff in thru FTP, then launch through 2142cc.
I'll likely have to wait for the updater to have 2142cc compatibility with linux.

Am I right?

He's right in that is DOES rename the bf2142ded.exe file because your instructions say to overwrite files when extracting to your bf2142 server.

This updater is a great idea but as many have said earlier I doubt GSP's and others are going to be able to make use of it. There are already a very limited amount of FS servers out there and we used to have quite a popular one (DrunkenMasters) however now since the updater does not work unfortunately I will no longer be able to host the server if the updater is the only option.

Im not new to installing servers or mods, and this program frankly doesn't work. I too would rather update with normal zip (rar) files even if I have to do it once a week. I don't know what im doing wrong here cause I've followed the instructions and then tried many other options I thought might work. I still get the same damn error that it can't dl any updates.

Please make a 1.4 server version that works!!!

Thank You

The 2142 server is never meant to be renamed. The updater should *always* be running, as it will check for updates every few minutes. It launches bf2142_w32ded_backup.exe server with what ever arguments you passed to bf2142_w32ded.exe originally, then connects to your RCON and monitors for updates. If a new update is detected, it checks if there are players on the server and stops the server. If there aren't, it stops it and updates. If there are, it waits for them to leave then updates. If you stop the server remotely, the 2142 server stops as well. If the 2142 server crashes, it will exit out so you know the server crashed and any autoreboot (such as 2142cc) will reboot it.

For wolfservers, I received a message today saying that they can't use this because it can't be installed by FTP. If it's really necessary, I'll package up absolutely everything needed for a server and they can install it as an entirely separate game, as that's basically what it is now. We have different server files from vanilla 2142. If you want, you can tell them they can contact me via MSN at imperial@dsgaming.net and we can try and sort everything out.
