Good job, I'm not about to reinstall Vista though. Hope it works just by reinstalling 2142. Heres a link I found that explains your steps.

OK ppl GOOD news, i have fixed the problem but it did involve a lot of fecking about. here's how:-

clean reinstall of vista 32bit (had too my HDD broked)

as soon as got in i opened CMD and activated the hidden admin account, i installed everything from there. and then deactivated it.
to find out how to do that Google it

Letting you know I have same problem, reg patch didn't work either.
Vista Ultimate 32bit. 2142 works perfect along with NS.

Cya Zipp, hopefully this all gets fixed on the next update, and i can play again too.
If you end up playing when its fixed, i will have another target !
Till then i will be playing Warhawk, RE5, Killzone 2 on the PS3.

Run the attached file (under sig), make sure to change the installdir to point to your battlefield 2142 directory.

It works fine for users of Vista 32 and 64 players, the registry entry is the same as in XP, this is the first and only report of the "Battlefield 2142 not found" error.

If the launcher is not finding bf2142 in the registry, and you installed to the default folders for bf2142.
Then i would think the launcher is not looking in the right place.
At least as far as vista 32/64 is concerned.
I know that everything works fine for me on my old Xp rig.
no modified content errors, or CTD's.
I dont use my old system, I built a new rig for gaming, and thats what im going to use.
If there is a fix of any kind for launcher error, registry or other for vista64.
I would like to know about it.

There is no plan to support manual updates in the future. It's too complex to update manually with this update system. Really, if your 2142 works you should just put the proper registry entry it's looking for in your registry (Gwynzer will hook you up with this) and it will work fine.

i really hope so.
so many people want to play this game but cant because of the complexity of installing and getting it to work.

just checked my stats from when i played back in 2007-2008 (cant remember)... i have 24 points and 1hr 4mins game time... yay!

We disabled the custom shaders a bit ago, they were causing more grief than they were worth. So all it does is update, mostly. There is no way to update manually, though.

O.k, the launcher is needed to update and to switch the shaders.zip.

Would this be a possible quick an dirty fix ?
-> Patching BF 2142 to 1.5
-> Copy the whole 2142 Directory and rename it
-> Download, update and install FirstStrike manually in the copy of BF2142
-> Replace the shaders.zip in the copy of BF 2142 with the shaders from FirstStrike
-> Start FirstStrike via shortcut

I can't recall if they gave you it in IRC or not, but you can try get the registry details direct from someone else using Vista 32 Bit and BF2142 deluxe edition.
