My major bugbear is the pistols, so your rifle is poop at long range shooting, just reach for that pistol and go sniping. Absolutely ridiculous. No sidearm should be that accurate over such long range and I will not accept the argument of it being a laser so it must be accurate. If thats the case rifles should be deadly accurate and all the weapons would be one hit killers.

Oh, and I disagree about facing aircraft, just go support, grab that demp then go lambda hunting

Edit:
Just before one of the dev's or lore monkeys comes back to me saying how the DL-44 was famed for it's accuracy etc, please also look at it's effective range, 25 metres optimum, 50metres maximum, thats accuracy not the actual range of the projectile for those that may get confused.

Re: Out of curiosity

What I'm the most astounded by is the kits. In FS, every infantry unit is loaded down with so much stuff that it's amazing he can fight, let alone stand up straight, and they all perform the same function - anti-infantry - with some bonus abilities like repairs, shield deployment etc. added in as additional flavour. On the other hand, I found from downloading GC and cracking open the HTML format manual that the Engineer (think Support) has a knife, pistol, fusion cutter, DetPacks and Antitank mines. That's it. That's all he needed to perform his duties well, and it left him dependent on other infantry for support, the way a TIE Bomber requires fighter escort.

Compare this to FS: The Support has a knife, pistol, rifle or DEMP, generator (yes, that heavy thing it took two stormies to carry in Empire Strikes Back when they set up the E-Web) two proton grenades, two antipersonell mines, and a droid caller for an astromech droid. And to think that when FS was first released, Support was slammed for not having grenades, too.

In GC, you actually had major, and I mean major, differences between what the highly specialized classes could and could not do. The Scout was an incredible marksman and sniper with his sprint and camouflage tarp (boy, do I miss that tarp), but dead meat in an actual firefight - heck, his rifle didn't even have crosshairs ! In FS, however, it doesn't matter if your sniping hideout is compromised by the enemy, because every class in FS, from sniper to officer to tank hunter to medic to engineer, is an Army of One who can take on just about any threat you can name except aircraft and heavy tanks. Even more so with the Withering Fire system (which is still great in and of itself).

Were it up to me, the classes would be split up into specialized sub-classes, like sniping, scouting and spotting for artillery and bombers; tank hunting; combat engineer duties; assault, etc. Each class would carry only the equipment he needed for his specialized job, and which classes were available would be up to the map (no use for tank hunters in Mos Entha, for example). If this didn't work - I'm finally figuring out why TY2D2 pushed like mad for this back in the day - implement an FH2/PR Armoury system or something. I'm serious, I've converted . I don't care if it's a boogeyman "PR feature", something like it is needed for FS.
