I am not sure if I am allowed to really give advice on the content, since this is a contest but be sure to revise and polish it off before final submitance!

    Drehg awoke slowly, at first only able to hear the sound of blasters ringing out all around him.  He then lifted his head seeing only the blurred vision of a turbolaser resting high on a hilltop.

    A harsh yell pierced the fog in his mind.

    “Get up soldier or your walking home, someone get a damn medic over hear!” came the voice of his commander Araiker. “You look horrible boy, but you need to get up and stay with the group.”

“What happened?”  Drehg moaned as the platoon’s medic began to check him over.

    “Some damn fool sent us straight over Bestine, the other transport managed to land but we took a couple heavy hits, I dragged your sorry hide to the pods, ” Araiker said. “ we managed to launch just as the transport’s shields failed.”

    “He’s taken only a minor hit to the head, I don’t envy the headache he’s surely got but he’ll be alright.” The medic reassured his commander.

    “Looks like your stuck fighting it out with us my boy.” Araiker jested.

    With a shaky stand and a nod of his head they headed for the rest of the group.  Coming out of the deep blackened trench left by the transport, they saw what remained of they’re platoon dug in at the edge of the city.  The sound of shot rang out almost as a never-ending tone.

    “Nice of you to rejoin the living Drehg,” a friend called out, “they’ve taken up some really nice positions in there boss, and if that turbolaser on the hill sights us, we’re bantha fodder.”

    “Those turbo’s are controlled by computer, just worry about the bucket heads in the city for now.” Yelled Araiker, “The other transports are attempting to take out the city defenses, right now we need to work our way back to them.”

    Just then a solid shot burned through one of the platoon members helmets, dropping him to the ground.  “Sniper on the turbolaser tower!” another yelled.  Drehg winced at the sign of the fallen comrade, but continued to send burst after burst of hot blaster fire towards the storm troopers taking refuge behind a low stone wall.

    A large explosion near the center of the dry city sent out a concussion of sand making it difficult to see. “Just got word, that was an enemy tank boys, looks like the others are faring well.”

    “Time to move up! Pop smoke!” small stick smoke grenades flew from the other troops, bursting into thick clouds of smoke between the rebel fighters and storm troopers.  “Go, go, go!” the whole group surged out from their cover sprinting to the left of their enemies position despite the heavy fire still penetrating the smoke screen.
