On topic: I don't really like chutes. Prefer the challenge of having to land a wounded fighter, myself. That, and the removal of chutes means you don't have players jumping off of rooftops or cliffs with them. Much better for immersion.

If/when we get a space map with troop transport ships like the lambda, I wouldn't be against Pilots getting the ability to eject from fighters for then to hover around in space until a shuttle picks them up. But parachutes or jet packs to slow falls? It's the consensus of the devs (and for the matter us testers) that it's not gonna happen.

Sykes, you have to understand something about the FS Developers. They believe strongly in hypocrisy. No tanks in the original movies, but there are plenty of tanks in FS. There is Jetpack technology in the original movies, but not in FS

With Jetpacks for all regular soldiers (in one or two dedicated maps), the developers of First Strike actually have an opportunity to CONTRIBUTE to the expanded universe of Star Wars, instead of just being a SLAVE to what other people have written about the expanded universe.

Contradictory much?

1st paragraph: Using stuff for which there's little basis: Bad.
2nd paragraph: Using stuff for which there's already a basis: Bad.

See, your statement proves that the jetpacks were really popular!

"Popular" and "good addition" aren't synonyms. If I coded a tauntaun that could breathe fire, that'd probably be popular too, doesn't mean it'd make FS a better mod.

I see possible implementations for the jet pack, but I think I speak for all of us guys making and testing the mod when I say that a map where everyone has one and buzzes around dogfighting instead of actually capping CP's (on a map never designed for jet packs in the first place) just isn't one of them.

Sykes wrote:

Coding?

"Coding" is the programming and tweaking of the gamemodes, vehicles, weapons, etc. in First Strike. But no, fortunately we don't have to resort to just 0's and 1's. We've moved on to Python and whatnot now, so we're talking lines of programming language that you can check out for yourself by looking through the .zip files in your First Strike folder.

Twiggy said Jetpacks are fun. Holy freaking crap!

Twigs wrote:

Much of the tech in First Strike is not seen in the movies but is taken from what is known as the expanded universe, ir stories and games set in the same time frame that have expanded on the original movies.

With Jetpacks for all regular soldiers (in one or two dedicated maps), the developers of First Strike actually have an opportunity to CONTRIBUTE to the expanded universe of Star Wars, instead of just being a SLAVE to what other people have written about the expanded universe.

Twigs wrote:

but even in Star Wars they would have had a limited flight time so if they went back in I'd be looking at reducing the amount of flight time and removing it's ability to 'refuel' by itself.

Why limit the flight time to that severe degree? In the 1960s a turbojet pack using kerosene powered jet engines was built and it could fly for 20 minutes.

Twigs wrote:

The main reason for removal though is that it proved to be detrimental to gameplay.
