But I've been playing since 2005. I've had some good times in First Strike but Galactic Conquest was...so much more enjoyable. I'm not sure why...maybe because I was younger. The Harlequin and NoC guys were great to play with.

Anyways, it is a shame there really aren't any well populated SW FPS mods these days.

Well can we at least call it a spiritual successor? I mean it's the same theme, it's for the same game franchise, battlefield, and a lot of the same people are involved. Sorta like how Bioshock wasn't a sequel to System Shock, but it was a spiritual successor.

I've got to say, you remind me a lot of me when I first joined this forum.

That said, this poll doesn't really have anything fitting for me. A few years back, I was playing quite a bit of Battlefield 1942, despite having every battlefield game that followed it. I figured I'd poke around for some decent mods, and that's how I came across the long-deserted GC. Needless to say, there were very few people on there, but I met some regulars and had a lot of good fun. Now, in due time I was pointed to First Strike, and decided it was time that I went and checked it out. I jumped onto an Endor Strike Team map with one other person on it; that person happened to be Talon, who helpfully answered all of my stupid questions.

Then I jumped on to the forums and proceeded to post a flurry of disturbingly optimistic (and often GC-related) threads asking questions that spanned the entire spectrum of stupid, much to the ire of TY2D2, and then proceeded to take a series of sporadic hiatuses (haiti?) before coming back and trying to mend my reputation. So...yeah. Fun times all around.

Besides if you're going to be compared to or called the sequel to another mod there's no shame in that, as long as it's a good one.

This mod has never been called Galactic Conquest, nor is it a sequel to Galactic Conquest.

This mod started out life with the name it has now, First Strike. Being a Star Wars mod for the Battlefield engine it obviously drew comparisons with Galactic Conquest a Star Wars mod for Battlefield 1942 (which incidentally I played in its earliest incarnation when it was just a sparse Hoth Map, but didn't keep with it, got into Desert Combat instead. I wish I had come to it later in its life as I have heard some fantastic stories about how good this mod got).

Anyhow to further fuel the fire of links between First Strike and Galactic Conquest fairly early in this mod's development there was a migration of several ex-members of the Galactic Conquest dev team over to this mod, so as soon as that became apparent everyone started claiming that First Strike was indeed a sequel to Galactic Conquest, and this simply isn't the case.

If you play that mod and then this one you'll find they are both fundamentally different animals with very different attitudes to gameplay design amongst many other differences. The only thing they really have in common is that they are both Star Wars mods for the Battlefield Engine.

So while I have the upmost respect for Galactic Conquest, and appreciate the fact that a lot of our players have moved on to us after playing Galactic Conquest in the past. I can categorically state that First Strike is not a sequel to Galactic Conquest.
