Try removing as many background and task bar tasks as possible, including anti-virus and anti-spyware programs.

The server you are trying to join is likely out of date. Try to join an up-to-date server, and if it still fails, reinstall first strike. IF you have to reinstall, make sure you delete the "fsbuild_1016.zip" that is in your Battlefield2142InstallDirectory/mods folder before running the updater.

when i installed the new hotfix every time i tried to play multiplayer it crashed when i clicked deploy. I reinstalled first strike but it does exactly the same thing.
