I am going to try out reinstalling the drivers, just not right now, thats too time consuming and it doesn't fit in well with my college life schedule.

5700 and QUAD are working better than my Single core and my old GT220 by 10fold so, living without DX11 is fine for me.

It's not a performance boost really. You are actually limiting the capabilites of your card. if you are going to insist on running XP then you may as well have saved a lot of money and bought a much lower end card. Why buy a DX10/11 card when XP can only utilise DX9? You're not getting the full capability from your card.

Anyway's, if you are so insistant that everything else is fine, uninstall the lot (2142 and FS) then install 2142 on it's own. Make sure that runs then install FS.

I don't like Win7 or Vista, and it is a performance boost so I don't feel it's wasted.

Every other game works fine, absolutely no problems like this in any other program. ARMA2, BFBC2, SC2, all run perfectly.

did you change your processor, graphics and mobo recently? if yes then did you change your psu? please specify your psu. additionally uninstall and reinstall the latest catalyst software suite, do not use driver cleaners or registry optimizers (you have an AMD chipset i assume).

Actually you'd be surprised what it can do. If you instructed it to remove all references to nvidia for example, and your motherboard uses a nvidia chipset, then guess what? You just knackered your pc! Chipset drivers, networks drivers, pci drivers..you follow?

Also, a quad core and 5 series ati card are completely wasted on XP.

Easiest solution....complete reinstall of ALL drivers for the motherboard and graphics card.

I used the driver cleaner to remove the old nVidia drivers. So that didn't break anything, I am sure.

I updated my drivers through the catalyst control center so I am sure that wouldn't cause a problem either.

I am useing XP 32bit.

Oh dear.

Right, driver cleaners can be useful...but only if they remove drivers for items no longer connected, such as old cameras or scanners. If you have let it remove all sorts of stuff you may have removed specific drivers for your motherboard.

As to the graphics driver, you say you updated, how? Did you remove your old drivers before installing the new ones? If not you may have just caused a driver conflict.

Best bet is to start the computer in safe mode and begin removing the graphics drivers, then installing the latest version and reinstalling all your motherboard drivers. You can also check to see which hardware may have issues by running hardware manager.

Have you tried running any other games?
I'd recommend uninstalling, redownloading and reinstalling the drivers if the computer is still locking up. What OS you use?

No sound card, I did try reinstalling my drivers.

Sounds like a driver issue to me, too.
Try reinstalling your vid card drivers (download it again to make sure).
Do you have a sound card?

AMD QUAD X4 955

It only crashes completely if the game is set to start up in fullscreen mode. In windowed mode the game screen just vanishes.

seems to be a driver problem - graphic and/or chipset.

I can't get FS to work.

I have the resolution set to 1920x1200 to fit my monitors resolution, I tried the +widescreen 1 argument, as well as setting the resolution in the arguments for the launcher.

Game starts up, gives the splash screen, then the screen goes black for awhile, the disk spins, then stops spinning and the computer crashes and restarts completely if the game isn't set to start in windowed mode. If set to start in windowed mode the window appears black, then it just dissapears when the disk stops spinning. No error messages appear in either case.

I installed this all on a clean reinstall of 2142.

Uninstalled 2142 all profiles etc.
Reinstalled 2142
Repatched to 2142 1.5
Installed FS 1.5
Ran launcher and updated, no errors.

And now this.

I have also ran a driver cleaner and removed all drivers that aren't being used. And I updated my drivers for my current card.
