Rather than start another thread for this I thought I'd throw this in here under this same thread banner, and have it for impressive Star Wars related 3D modelling in general.

A new member over on Scifi Meshes has just posted a new thread showcasing his work, basically he is doing high end work on a recreation of Docking Bay 94 (the hangar the Falcon was berthed in during A New Hope while in Mos Eisley), he started out with that, but then expanded the project to take in the streets too. He is also importing his assets into Unreal 4 Engine so it'll be an interactive experience when it is done.

If you want to get a rough idea of what First Strike's Mos Espa map could potentially look like in Unreal 4, this gives you a good idea. Watch the vid and hang out for the hangar showcase at the end, that is the only area which is fully textured, and yes, you've guessed it...

The ISD master takes on the Mon Cal.

Fractalsponge has gone to the light side? Perhaps. He has just started work on a Mon Cal MC-90 (an EU Rebel cruiser first seen in the Dark Empire comic book series). If you know of his work already you'll know he is a master Star Destroyer and Imperial craft builder with an almost painfully good eye for detail. So to see him take on a Rebel ship in interesting to say the least. If only to see how he deals with OMG, curves? He has only just made a start on the model, but even at this early stage his WIP images already show that when this his done his work is surely destined to become the definitive reference resource for this ship. I've seen the real shooting models of Mon Cal cruisers in person, and good as they are they don't hold up well to really close scrutiny, as they didn't need to. The detail already evident here far surpasses that. I just hope he takes on Home One (The Headquarters Frigate) and the other Mon Cal ships that appeared in the movies, as the end results would be fantastic. Anyhow enough of my waffle, check it out for yourself here:

I don't think he has truly turned to the light side though. I just reckon he felt he needed to build a few Rebel ships for his vast armada of ISDs to beat the crap out of.

In case you are not already aware, Fractalsponge's work has gone officially canon in the most fantastic way, he has been commissioned to produce artwork for a new Star Wars book which has just been released, The Essential Guide to Warfare. This features a lot of his custom ISD designs as well as other specific ships that he has been tasked with building such as Star Destroyers from other eras. This is just fantastic and couldn't happen to a more deserving chap. Check out these images, great work to be sure. Will have to go and buy the book now.

No, a few of them are his own design, such as the AT-SE and his variations on the Star Destroyer designs, a lot of them are very faithful interpretations of EU craft though, such as the Gunboat, Scimitar and Customs Corvette.

Stunning, simply stunning.

I love his Imperial Customs Corvette too, very nice work on a medium sized capital ship, fantastic attention to detail.

Some of his super class Star Destroyer designs are beautiful too, check out the detail shots of the Imperial Star Dreadnought Wrath, Assertor-class with fully realised hanger areas and the works. Well worth a look.

I love the work he has done on the Star Destroyer designs, but his take on EU Imperial Starfighters really takes the biscuit, the Gunboat is one of my fave EU ships in need of a 21st century makeover and his vision for that craft is spot on, as are his depictions of the TIE Defender and Scimitar Bomber (another of my EU faves), really excellent work.
