Regarding the patch order? Yeah.

Crashing on deploy? I'm not so sure. You were mentioning screen resolutions/aspect ratios before, so make sure those are filled in correctly.

Here's the relevant section from the installation guide. If you've done all this and you're still having problems I'm not sure to be honest.

CRASH WHEN LAUNCHING
A common problem reported is a crash to desktop when first starting First Strike. This is most often reported by users running widescreen resolutions. In order to allow First Strike to run widescreen, and show widescreen resolution options in game, we have included the ability to enable it from the First Strike launcher.
Open the launcher but do not hit deploy.

Click on file then preferences.
In the small windows is a field titled Arguments, in this field you can enter ANY resolution you wish. To enable widescreen options simply enter: +widescreen 1
Click apply then ok.
You can also use this same field to enter any resolution not supported from the in game options. To do this, again find the arguments field as above. This time enter +szx **** +szy **** substituting the asterisks for your resolution, eg +szx 1920 +szy 1080.

But yeah, if you haven't got BF2142 correctly updated then that'll be your problem right there.

Best of luck with getting it sorted.

Hi Novocaine127, I just want to make sure I'm understanding you right regarding your copy of BF2142. Are you saying you didn't have the 1.51 patch installed for it before, and on trying to it told you you already had a more recent version of the game?

If that is the case, in the past that has meant that you have either installed the patches in the wrong order for BF2142 and that is why it won't allow you to install. Or it could be that you have the wrong version of the final patch, EA released a shedload of them, so you have to make sure you have the correct final patch. Another issue was making sure you did this all as administrator if I remember rightly. Either way, does BF2142 work okay for you?

Your best bet if you haven't checked it out yet is the installation guide. There is an old one which lists a few of these possible issues with BF2142, so that might be worth looking at, and then there is more recent video guide for installing First Strike 1.6 which is also pretty comprehensive. It is best to make sure you have BF2142 correctly bang up to date before you try to tackle getting FS up and running.

Anyhow here are the links, hope they're of use to you.

http://www.fsmod.com/newsfull-022014-3.htm

http://forums.fsmod.com/viewtopic.php?id=9938

I have a problem with the launcher actually, and would like to know if anyone else has this problem...

My launcher works perfectly fine. I input my Aspect ratio into preferences and click launch. As soon as i do, a black screen comes up like it's loading. But it almost instantly goes away, and is replaced by the error message below:

"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) Click OK to terminate the application"

And then the launcher pops up again. Any fixes? I'm running windows vista BTW, but when i looked at other problems for vista, this one didn't pop up.

I got the 1.51 patch but it says i already have newer version

Alrighty, I've searched for the 1.51 patch but I can never find an active link.. All the ones I've tried are dead. If it's at all possible, could you link me to a working link for the patch? Also, I already have the widescreen set.

Ok...

2142 should be patched to 1.51 now.

Have you set your widescreen up? From the First Strike launcher click File, then preferences, then in the arguments field enter +widescreen 1 or you can set your own custom resolution by entering +szx 1920 +szy 1080 substituting the figures for your own requirements.

If neither of those fix it, go to your BF2142 installation folder, program files (x86)/Electronic Arts/BF2142. In this folder track down two files, FirstStrike.exe and BF2142.exe. You need to copy BF2142.exe to your desktop, then rename it to FirstStrike.exe. Now copy it back to your 2142 folder so it overwrites the existing file and try again.

Hello. Last night I had installed First Strike, the version that is available for download on ModDB. When I go to launch the game, it's been completely updated mind you, it goes to a black screen but then Windows gives me a message saying that First Strike has crashed and yadda yadda. My 2142 is the deluxe edition and is patched to 1.50. My specs are;

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
4 gigs DDR2 ram
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 3.16 GHz
Some Mobo from Gigabyte

If I've missed anything from my specs that is required to know please let me know. I've already done a forum search, twice. I found nothing that can help me.

Just to make myself clear, I get no little splash screen of any kind. Not the 2142 splash screen or if First Strike has one, not even that. I just hit launch, black screen, crash error. Thank you in advance.
