You may be better off with 3dSMax if you're just starting out. Most of the BF2 modding community is using Max - as this thread is regarding; there is little to no info on doing animations in Maya for BF2.
Either way, neither application is cheap and your best bet for getting a copy at a reasonable price would be an educational outlet. Students get much cheaper licenses.
Regards,
-phresh

xEROhOUR wrote:

As a matter of intrest what Project is it Phresh ?

Well it's a mod I'm heading up, so far only 3 of us really working on it. It's unannounced at this point but I will be getting a site together for it soon and doing that PR thing to get the word out. I don't really want to announce it until people can go to our site and see waht's up and see some media at least. So for now, I'll just say that the setting is modern day and it has nothing to do with military

alx wrote:

I had some trouble with the weapon animations and maya.. the import/export process kept on damagind the bones and such. We now do all our weapon animations in max..

That is unfortunate and I fear we may end up doing the same thing. Nonetheless, I will be helping build a thread on the bfeditor forums in the Maya section in which we'll hopefully figure some of this stuff out. It sounds like you have gotten further than anyone else with it so I hope you woudln't mind helping the community out in the said thread. I will be sure to link it here once we get it going and have what we know and what we don't know all spelled out.
Cheers guys, keep up the good work, I'm very much looking forward to playing your mod.
-phresh

I see you guys are doing some modeling in Maya. I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to get animations done in Maya into BF2 (for guns, soldiers or vehicles). I have a rough idea of how it is done but I haven't had any success yet with guessing how to set up the hierarchy and everything. There seems to be no info on doing this from the community on the bfeditor forums. It is a huge roadblock for my project and if you guys are modeling in Maya I guess you'll have to deal with it too.
If you have the answers.. awesome, please share. If you're in the same boat as me perhaps we can collectively figure it out. There's always the good ol process of elimination - there are just a lot of trials to do, hehe.
Cheers,
-phresh
