Someone over on ModDB us asking for a fix to the mouse pointer disappearing bug. I thought we had a fix for that, but I can't find it for the life of me.

Digging deep into our archives I found a solution to the missing mouse cursor/pointer problem, though not sure if this is going to help you or not. Back in the day this issue was caused by not having BF2142 bang up to date, it occurred when you didn't have the BF2142 1.5 update installed, updating this fixed the problem, but I have to assume you all have that now. Best bet is to make sure that your BF2142 has all the correct final updates. You can find links to these in the Client Support forums.

FirstStrike should be installing to bf2142/mods. I am assuming here that you used the full 1.6 installer? I can't explain why it isn't installing correctly, but at the moment it does not install the auto patcher/launcher program for you, that is a seperate download at the moment.

The servers maybe appearing red as we launched a couple of fixes for overlooked items after the major 1.6 launch. This means without the patcher you will be appearing as a different version to the servers.

Ok, so ...   I need a launcher.  But it says the launcher comes with 1.6.  So I go looking... for First Strike....

But there are no folders in my Electronic Arts/BF2142/mods directory related to First Strike...   there is no launcher... there are no shortcuts on the desktop to First Strike, or under the Start Button programs group... or in the Program Files Folder...

In short, I have no idea where the First Strike Installer installed its gigabytes of files, under my Windows XP 32 bit  on my legit copy of BF2142 patched up to 1.51

I ran it twice, just to make sure it was installing in the right place...  where it asks you in the installer, where you want to install it...   same deal.   After completion, No shortcuts, no icons, no folders in the mods folder... or in the Levels folder...     what the hey!

If a Battlefield 2 / 2142 modder with 6 years experience inside and out of BF2142 and its files, can't find where your mod got installed...  I'm wondering... how will any other player?  Let alone, launch it.  It should be right beside the "Red Zone" client side mod folder and "FFolks" modfoler I installed, inside my mods folder...

I thought... well, lets try to join a First Strike server from with inside 2142... no dice either...  they are still "red"... as in, unavailable.

got it to work ^.^;;  but 1 more thing.. when trying to connect to the servers it says ive got the wrong version.

Sometimes, just trying again works.

For reference, however, if you do have this issue, YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.  The BlackIntel Downloads Page has all of the correct patches for BF2142 and First Strike.  Make sure you have the correct version BEFORE commencing any edits.

Open registry edit (in Vista or newer, type "regedit" into the start menu search.  In XP, type "regedit" into the "Run" prompt.

Navigate to the following location:

For 64bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2142

For 32bit Windows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2142

Right click on "Version", modify and set it to 1.50.  Click OK, exit regedit, and try patching again.
