Re: The Future of Star Wars?

I don't really see a point in making epsiodes 7, 8, and 9, at least as a continuation of the previous six.

I would like to see pre-KoTOR era stuff though like the Freedon Nadd, Kun, etc. eras. Also I would like to see a movie(s) of Darth Zannah after her rise to power...or books would be fine too I guess.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

I would like to see them continue the series after the original trilogy. I've had my fill with the prequels, so I think it's time to go back to the characters we all know and love.

About Darth Zannah, I was never a fan of the Bane series, the characters and story were just uninteresting for me. It explained the Rule of Two thing, which was cool, but that was it. I didn't get attached to the characters. Sure, they were Sith, but so was Jacen Solo and he was interesting. Not to mention the Jedi Order/Republic enters that thousand year or so golden age, there wasn't much conflict. Anything the Sith did was mostly behind the scenes, in shadow, they kept to themselves.

But I'm fine with the pre-KotOR era being turned into movies.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

For me it's gotta be about Luke. I'm sure it's tempting to bring in a new lot and pass on the torch and all that but, for me, Star Wars was all about Luke. I know with the prequels it was supposed to turn the story arc into a Vader centric one about his redemption but in my mind the originals were about a naive idealist lower class kid who got swept up into into what he dreamed about, found it tough, made mistakes, nearly lost his humanity but eventually triumphed. The redemption of Vader was just a result of Luke's triumphant refusal to be seduced. Luke's adventure is why we all fell in love with Star Wars.

Of course, with it being set decades after ROTJ, new and younger characters need to be introduced but I'd hate to see Luke be killed off in the first episode or just play some cameo role.

Also, please cast unknown actors. I don't want to see Iron Man in Star Wars!!

Man, I wish I had said this. Luke is my favorite character.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

I'm a bit funny about Luke, I agree the first trilogy was all about his journey, but his type of character by its nature tends to be quite boring, as he tends to be the every man who you relate to and that it is through his eyes that you view this amazing world, and as a result of that it is more of a case that he is surrounded by more interesting characters than he is. You kinda get the same sort of thing happening with Neo in the Matrix, his character is pretty boring at its core, but the fact serves the story well. With Luke if you think about it when you first saw Star Wars as a kid, sure in the playground there'd be the odd one who wanted to be Luke, but it was more likely that you'd find people wanted to be Han Solo because it looked like he had more fun, was more of a rogue etc.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

I don't find Luke to be boring at all, unlike Neo. Luke is an excellent character, he has his own personal struggles and whatnot to deal with. He starts out as a naive teen eager to explore the world in A New Hope and ends up as a calm and wise Jedi Master in Return of the Jedi. He might might be the every man in the beginning, but he quickly becomes just as interesting as the others. Han Solo has such an awesome personality that people tend to think that Luke has none, whereas I find Luke to have some depth to his character.

Re: The Future of Star Wars?

Well perhaps boring is too strong a word as he does go on an interesting journey, but it is just that it would be a lot less fun to be him due to all the rules he has to adhere to. It is kinda that element that makes the role boring, having to be the Goodie-two-shoes if you will, playing by the rules etc. I guess that is part of (amongst many other issues) why the prequels failed to connect with some people, the fact people found Jedi hard to relate to because they were so good, which kinda made them a little boring, you want a bit more complexity in your protagonist. I think Luke did have that in the end to some extent, and the hero's journey and that type of character is archetypal, they just tend not to be the most fun, they have all the responsibility on their shoulders, get all the danger, and usually get minimal rewards for their efforts, and sometimes they don't even get the girl. Where's the fun in that?

wink
