Re: The Future of Star Wars?
It's not actually Tatooine, surprisingly. JJ said that it's a new panet called Jakku.
Interesting if that is the case. I guess everyone must be getting Tatooine fatigue by now, and there must be more than one desert planet out there. Sure looks a lot like it though. especially the aesthetic of some of the buildings and what not in that market place. But I suppose we haven't seen any binary sunsets on this world yet, which is the usual give away. Actually I do think I heard about this world being called Jakku somewhere before, my memory, must be getting old.

It's strange how Luke's old saber that he lost on bespin has resurfaced. Looks like a little alien is passing it to a female, tho you only see its face a bit and only very briefly. Thought it might be an Ugnaught but probably not. Maybe a child one?
Ugnaught? Heh, Carrie Fisher will not be impressed with you
. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's Leia passing over the Lightsaber. The voice over mentions 'Sister...' in time with this shot in the same fashion that it timed 'I have it' with a shot of someone who looks like they might be Luke, but like you say, these could all be red herrings, but I do think those shots are the briefest of glimpses of those characters.
The fact that Vader's mask and Luke's lost saber feature quite heavily makes me think they could be somewhat central to the plot.
Yes, they are.
There's defo a hooded figure standing over Vader's mask, and it's on a pedestal. Could be Luke or the Sith. Gonna go for the Sith ...which makes me think Luke's Bespin saber is being handed to Rey (the girl) as she's a scavenger and she's being chased for the saber (tho it might just be Finn who is being chased).
Maybe the Sith is using the Force from these sorts of artefacts to power something? or maybe he just likes Skywalkers? Guess they'd be famous after ROTJ
I believe that the Sith guy is a bit of a Dark Side fanboy who is trying to gather Sith artefacts for his collection, but might not yet be a proper Sith, hence the rough looking lightsaber. So it would make sense that he might have somehow got a hold of Vader's melted up mask.
I actually think Rey might not be a Skywalker/Solo. I think Finn might be a Calrissian but the lack of a surname for Rey could be a red herring (kind of how JJ works sometimes) and we haven't actually been introduced yet to the nex gen of Jedi?
I think you might be right there too, be weird to have them do a similar thing to what they did with Luke and have the next generation Skywalker/Solo also be a desert rat, but perhaps there is some distant relationship? Other than through the Force.
It is almost a race thing to assume Finn is a Calrissian, are there not more than one family of black guys out there in that galaxy far, far away? But it would be a nice way to further link up with the original trilogy, and the fact that his character has been given no last name does make me suspicious that his surname might be significant and so kept secret for now. Time will tell I guess.
Is it still not Christmas yet?
