Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Just finished playing a few rounds of drop zone; it looks great and there were some fun moments when defending the pods, but holding onto them can be a pain, and it can take too long to secure a single pod for one side when neither side can hold onto one.

Another thing I noticed is that jump packs are far too common to make it feel like star wars, and it unbalances game play if one side doesn't have them.

One thing that bugged me slightly is that anyone, no matter what side they are on, could get a rebel or imperial gun.

I think I'll try walker assault after dinner to see what that's like.
My Origin account name is Jackroy22 if anyone wants to play tonight or Sunday.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

I'm bobbing on now so will look out for you.

Personally I don't have too much of an issue with the gun (sorry, blaster lol) thing, there is president for it in the movies. In Jedi you see Rebel Commandos packing E11s, granted, this is because they had just been captured, had now escaped and were clearly going to pick up whatever blasters they could find to arm themselves with. But in addition to this some Imperial Officers were packing DL-44s in ANH, hence First Strike using them for both Rebel and Imperial Officer classes. Also in this game you don't instantly gain access to use of the opposite faction's weapons, you need to earn experience points for that, so it is not by default or anything. Sure it looks a little weird to see an Imperial Stormtrooper packing an A280, but compared to some of the other issues/crimes with the game this is a minor one to my mind.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

I agree with you guys. I'm torn because on one hand the game IS incredibly immersive, fun and they've nailed the aesthetics, but on the other hand the gameplay is shallow, there's a serious lack of freedom, there's no true team focus and hierarchy, we need more control options and the game simply is not as faithful to the source material as it should've been.

If you guys haven't already, I highly recommend going on the official Battlefront beta forum and post your feedback (I haven't gotten to it yet; there's A LOT I want to say and I know I'm going to get flamed for it lol).

Also, my Origin ID is BTL-A4_Ace if you want to add me. wink

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

As far as I'm concerned with it so far, it's a massive let down compared not only to the old battlefront games, and not only compared to the battlefield series, but compared to this mod as well.

It feels like more of a call of duty clone than anything else.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

I come away from it flustered every time. They took "faster and more intense" to the extreme...and not in a good way.

Like Jag said above, maybe they were trying to make it like COD, I don't know as I haven't played COD mp since a brief 10 minutes of COD4 but I can see the resemblance.

I never saw the appeal of having a 10 second average life span in a mp game. I like games that you can spawn in, get your bearings, strategize, flank. Where there is an obvious frontline. Where I don't HAVE to simply run and gun. I suppose if I was better at it it would be more fun but as it stands I am in the spawn screen more than in the actual game.

It bums me out because this will sell millions of copies and be seen as a great success and there will never be any perceived need to reformulate the series and make it more like...dare I say it...Battlefield/GC/FS.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

Indeed. All we can do is voice our concerns on their forums as Mechag2 suggests, and hope there is enough negative feedback to get them to make at least some concessions, unlikely as that might be, at least DLC makes it possible at some point in the future. The thing is the only thing which will make them take notice is if you vote with your wallet and don't purchase the game, which again is unlikely to happen with the masses (or with me for that matter), who will just lap this game up because it is Star Wars and it looks pretty.

What would be an ideal solution is if they added an additional game mode which was more authentic and true to the movies on movie related maps such as Hoth and Endor. That and the addition of squad play functionality and decent map design where initial spawn locations are more intelligently placed.

Re: At Last! DICE to make the new SWBF!!!

As Talon eluded too about the problem of spawns out in the open in that there is no death penalty.    You don't need to hunt for health packs or find a team mate to heal you if you know that you just spawn right back in if you die.     Other games that have open spawns give you a few seconds of invulneability to get your bearings and avoid being spawn camped.

On a positive note, I like how they replaced the flag capture concept with more immersive objects - drop pods on tatooine and  uplinks on Hoth.   The use of uplinks to make the ATATs vulnerable is certainly inventive, but completely reimagines the Battle of Hoth.  If this was an alternate gameplay version of Hoth that would be fine, but there really should be a classic gameplay version as well.

Unfortunately, this is the new formula for Dice - create games that look great and are very simple to play with no to little depth.   Longevity doesn't matter because servers farms are expensive.   The goal is the lowest common denominator.  With the reboot of the movie franchise tie in, this will be a sure hit, but it will be shallow and need DLC to keep interest going.   Once DLC development stops, interest will fall off and DICE will be ready to push the next version and start the cycle over again.    The only way we will get the gameplay we want in a new game is to design it ourselves.   Feedback on the DICE forums may help guide future DLC packs, but with the release schedule for next month, we can't expect any major gameplay changes.
